Delroy Lindo Talks About MCU’s ‘Blade’ and Why It Didn’t Work Out

Delroy Lindo boasts an extended and noteworthy acting career, and one of his most anticipated ventures was Marvel’s Blade movie. Unfortunately, as many fans have come to understand, the production has faced numerous hurdles, resulting in Lindo no longer being involved with it.

In a recent conversation, Lindo discussed his experiences on the set of Blade and the issues that arose. He shared how thrilled he was when Marvel initially contacted him for the role.

According to Lindo, Marvel appeared genuinely intrigued by his ideas. He conversed with the producers, scriptwriter, and director, and the entire interaction felt stimulating and promising creatively. He further stated that the project was not only intellectually appealing but also exciting due to the character development aspect.

Despite Marvel not specifying the role Lindo would take on, he revealed that the character he’d be portraying resembled Marcus Garvey, a prominent Black activist and figurehead from the early 20th century.

As I delved into the intricacies of this character, it struck me that there was an unmistakable resemblance to Marcus Garvey in his persona. You see, he wasn’t just any ordinary man; he was a leader, a beacon for the Black community. Just like Sinners, he had built a community, a sanctuary, a home for us, Black people.

However, after initial enthusiasm, things began to unravel. Lindo commented, “It simply derailed for some unknown reason.” Marvel experienced multiple changes in directors and scriptwriters, and the movie was taken off its scheduled release date.

On prior occasions, Marvel ventures didn’t pan out for Lindo. He was initially slated to appear in a Marvel TV spinoff many years ago, portraying Dominic Fortune. Unfortunately, that series never materialized. However, upon being cast in Blade, the team behind the earlier project extended their well wishes. As he remembers, they sent him a heartfelt message saying, “‘Congratulations, man. We’re extremely happy for you,’“.

Regardless of whether Blade was successful or not, Lindo considers it a step along his path. “These experiences, regardless of their outcomes, have contributed to shaping the person I am today,” he explained.

At the moment, he’s dedicating himself to various other ventures and is even penning a book that delves into certain aspects of his professional journey. Maintaining a humble outlook, he often reminds his son and his friends, “Always remember, you never know who might be watching. Strive for your best at all times, as someone may reappear in your life.
