Absolutely, since the initial release of Death Note, it has grown into a franchise, leading to more tales and spin-offs that were inspired by the original comic book. This expansion not only added layers to the narrative but also increased its appeal among enthusiasts.
Among these derivative works is the Death Note: The Musical, which is getting a new run this Fall!
Titled “Death Note: The Musical“, this production was masterfully created by renowned American composer, Frank Wildhorn, with the script penned by Jack Murphy. It first graced the stage in Tokyo back in 2015 and has since been adapted extensively across various regions globally.
According to Wildhorn’s latest update on their social media, we can expect the return of the musical later in the year.

The musical is set to be performed in Tokyo this coming November, marking a special anniversary performance to commemorate the musical’s 10th anniversary. It has been confirmed that Megumi Hamada will reprise her role as Rem from the original 2015 run, and Kenji Urai, who played Light Yagami in the initial production, will take on the role of Ryuk. Among the new additions to the cast are:
- Kato Seishiro and Ao Watanabe as Light Yagami (double cast)
- Hiroki Miura as L
- Riho Sayashi as Misa Amane
- Riko of Jpop group HUNNY BEE as Sayu Yagami
- Kiyotaka Imai as Sōichirō Yagami
