‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Remains on Top of the Box Office, But Just Barely, as ‘It Ends with Us’ Comes Close to #1

As a die-hard fan of superhero movies and a regular at the local cinema, I have to say that this weekend has been absolutely thrilling! The battle between Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends with Us was nothing short of epic. I’ve seen both films multiple times, and let me tell you, it was quite the clash of titans.

In its third week in cinemas, the highly anticipated movie “Deadpool & Wolverine,” featuring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, has been breaking box office records since its release three weeks ago. The film, which surpassed the $1 billion mark this weekend, is now the second-highest-grossing movie of the year.

In the meantime, it’s unlikely that Deadpool and Wolverine will outshine Inside Out 2’s impressive $1.5 billion total earnings by 2024, but they are certain to stay among the leading contenders for the year. Simultaneously, It Ends with Us, starring Blake Lively – wife of Ryan Reynolds – debuted in cinemas this week. Although some experts thought that this film, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s best-selling book, could unseat Deadpool and Wolverine after three weeks at the box office summit, it didn’t quite manage to do so, but its earnings came close.

To put it simply, the weekend box office figures have been tallied, and it’s clear that Deadpool & Wolverine has held onto its number one spot for a third consecutive week. However, this weekend saw a tight competition between the two movies, with the results being quite close.

On Friday, we shared that “It Ends with Us” surprisingly outperformed “Deadpool & Wolverine,” leading some experts to speculate it could unseat the Marvel film over the weekend. However, most analysts anticipated a tight race where the Marvel movie would emerge victorious, though barely. And indeed, that’s exactly what transpired!

On Saturdays and Sundays, Deadpool and Wolverine dominated their matchup, raking in $21.7 million and $16.8 million respectively. Conversely, It Ends with Us faced stiff competition over the weekend, earning a comparatively lower $13.7 million and $12.1 million on the same days.

Over the weekend, I found myself at the top of the gaming leaderboard with Deadpool and Wolverine, racking up an impressive $54.2 million in earnings. Hot on our heels was It Ends with Us, which managed to snag a cool $50 million, making it a close second. Some folks are drawing parallels to last year’s “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, although the figures don’t quite compare. Still, the concept is strikingly similar.

Over the weekend, Glen Powell’s movie “Twisters” performed exceptionally well, maintaining its position among the top three earners by adding $15 million to its total. The film “Borderlands” took fourth place, but it underperformed significantly, and “Despicable Me 4” rounded out the top five with a take of $8 million. The movies “Trap”, “Inside Out 2”, and “Harold and the Purple Crayon” filled out spots six to eight in that order. NEON’s film “Cuckoo” made its debut in the top ten, earning $3 million during its opening weekend, while their horror movie starring Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe, titled “Longlegs”, continued to hold a spot in the top ten with a strong $2 million.
