On one hand, we have a man who has brought to life some of the most iconic films of our times – Deadpool, Sonic the Hedgehog. Yet, on the other, he was paid a mere fraction of what his work was worth.

Tim Miller, the director behind Deadpool, spoke candidly about the challenges faced by novice directors within the movie industry. In an interview with Collider, he confided that, in his opinion, he received significantly lower compensation than what was fair for his work on the film featuring Ryan Reynolds.

The director of The Secret Level expressed gratitude for being given the chance to work on the film but also mentioned that it wasn’t particularly beneficial for him financially. He additionally reminisced about a conversation with his agent, who informed Miller that he could have made significantly more money by directing an episode of a television series instead.

During a chat with the media outlet, the director of Sonic the Hedgehog candidly shared that being a first-time director in Hollywood isn’t typically financially rewarding, and he was happy to elaborate.

He went on to state, “I got $225,000 to direct Deadpool. I know it sounds like a lot of money, but for two years of work, that’s not a ton of money.”

In the first installment of the Deadpool series, the movie grossed approximately 782 million dollars at the box office. Interestingly, the director pocketed around $2.25 million from this massive income. Furthermore, the filmmaker expressed his gratitude, stating he feels “exceptionally fortunate” to have contributed to such a successful film franchise.

His statement can be rephrased as follows: “My second thought was, if only my director’s deals included a share of the merchandising revenue, so I could earn something from it all.

Miller went on to express, “I’m truly thankful; I really am; this is the expected response since I’m a debut director for the first time. My representative remarked, ‘You earn more per episode on The Walking Dead!’

Miller was absent from the movies that came out in 2018 and 2023, which were the subsequent installments of the franchise. David Leitch helmed the direction for the second segment, while Shawn Levy stepped up to direct the third film.
