James Gunn has mentioned he’d be open to a crossover between the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the DC Universe (DCU), though he acknowledges it’s a long way off. Recently, he revealed a surprising idea he had for the *Peacemaker* series: a cameo by Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. This would have been the first cross-universe event, featuring the most mature content from both Marvel and DC – a far cry from typical superhero team-ups like Superman and Spider-Man. Gunn shared details about this almost-realized crossover:
I had this idea to have Deadpool appear in a scene, and I discussed it with Ryan Reynolds. It would have taken a lot of effort to make it happen, but he was enthusiastic about it. Now, everyone’s going to be focused on that possibility, and honestly, I regret even mentioning it.
Had this cameo actually happened, the internet would have gone wild – it would have completely overshadowed everything else about the finale. People wouldn’t be discussing the future of the DC Universe or the characters’ stories; all anyone would talk about is the first-ever live-action Marvel and DC crossover. Maybe it’s a good thing it didn’t happen, though. We’d want to see Wade Wilson (Deadpool) and Chris (Ryan Reynolds) truly interact, letting their famously sarcastic personalities shine. A quick cameo with them just walking through different doorways wouldn’t have cut it. When Marvel and DC finally do cross over, it’ll be a huge legal undertaking, and we’ll have plenty of warning beforehand.
