DC fans now know which actor will portray the famous villain Brainiac in the new Superman movie, “Man of Tomorrow.”
Lars Eidinger, a German actor, will play Brainiac in the upcoming DC Universe film, ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ director James Gunn announced on Instagram Saturday. Gunn stated that Eidinger was the top choice after a global search, and officially welcomed him to the DCU.

Brainiac is a super-intelligent and often heartless villain in DC Comics. He’s notorious for collecting planets – either by shrinking them and keeping them in bottles, or simply destroying those he deems unworthy. First appearing in comics in 1958, created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, this movie marks his big-screen debut in a major DC film.
As a huge Superman fan, I’m incredibly excited for “Man of Tomorrow”! David Corenswet is back as Superman, and Nicholas Hoult is going to be Lex Luthor – a fantastic casting choice, in my opinion. James Gunn dropped a hint that these two might actually team up against Brainiac, and honestly, that’s a dynamic I never saw coming! The movie’s slated for release on July 9, 2027, and I’m already counting down the days.
Michael Eidinger is a seasoned actor with a strong resume. He recently starred in Noah Baumbach’s critically acclaimed film “Jay Kelly” and has also appeared in “Dead Language,” “The Light,” and “Dying,” which received a best film nomination at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival. He is represented by the agency UTA.
This new casting choice follows James Gunn’s successful start with DC’s “Superman,” which earned over $616 million worldwide and became the top-grossing superhero film of the year.
