
Max Minghella is reportedly close to signing on for the upcoming DCU Clayface film, a chilling adaptation of the Batman antagonist produced by DC Studios that leans heavily into horror elements.

In the upcoming film directed by James Watkins, due to start production in the UK this autumn, Minghella will work alongside Tom Rhys Harries and Naomie Ackie. Notably, Watkins gained recognition for his movie “Speak No Evil,” while the screenplay is penned by Mike Flanagan, who created the series “The Haunting of Hill House.

What is Clayface about?
The film “Clayface” can be categorized as a body-horror thriller, similar in style to David Cronenberg’s “The Fly.” In this movie, an aspiring actor named Harries undergoes a horrifying change when his face is damaged by a criminal. Seeking assistance, he approaches a scientist on the fringe (Ackie), which leads to a chilling metamorphosis. Minghella will portray a Gotham City detective who has a romantic connection with the scientist, adding an intriguing layer to the storyline.
Production and Budget and Release info
The film’s estimated budget falls around the middle of the $40 million mark. According to plans from DC Studios, the movie “Clayface” is set to be released on September 11, 2026.

Minghella was nominated for an Emmy for his work on “The Handmaid’s Tale” and has just completed filming season four of HBO’s “Industry”. His latest psychological thriller, titled “Shell“, which features Elisabeth Moss, Kate Hudson, and Kaia Gerber, had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
