This spring marks the start of a fresh instalment in the Resurrection Man storyline, titled “Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma.” The six-issue series is penned by Ram V, who has gained recognition through his work on Detective Comics. Ram V reunites with his longtime collaborator, artist Anand RK, who previously worked alongside him on Grafity’s Wall and designed captivating covers for Batman: Urban Legends.
The show is centered around the character Mitch Shelley, an immortal man. Originating in 1997 by the hands of Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, and Jackson ‘Butch’ Guice, this series revolves around Mitch who possesses the unique ability to resurrect. However, with each rebirth, he forfeits his former abilities and acquires new ones instead.
His life is less about being a hero and more about exploring the enigmatic aspects of his past, assisting others, and avoiding the clutches of ominous, eternal entities who seek him for their own purposes.
In this novel development, Shelley encounters a fresh hurdle. Following numerous lives and deaths, he awakens with a new objective: to protect the cosmos. His adversary? A malevolent figure from World War II concentration camps, who has acquired a sinister variant of Mitch’s abilities.
In his journey across both time and dimensions, Mitch encounters a situation where discerning right from wrong becomes increasingly challenging. He might even be forced to sacrifice himself repeatedly in order to protect all that matters.
Ram V has been eager to tell this story for a while:
This narrative has been a long-held desire of mine ever since I began crafting tales for DC. It’s clung to me, refusing to let go, and it’s managed to capture my thoughts, sparking an unyielding passion and enthusiasm within me for the character and plot.
For me, one of the pleasures of creating comics is having the opportunity to redesign and reshape characters according to my personal interests and delights. I believe readers will feel my enthusiasm as we, Anand, Mike Spicer [colorist], Aditya Bidikar [letterer] and I, craft a tale about eternal lives, saving universes, and love that transcends time itself, encompassing the entire expanse of existence.
