DC’s Clayface: Kick-Ass 2’s Jeff Wadlow And Eden Lake’s James Watkins Are In Race To Grab Director’s Seat

According to recent reports, DC Studios is planning its next move after the success of Creature Commandos and anticipation for Superman. They are currently seeking out potential directors to pitch ideas, with Clayface being their current focus.

Based on a report by Deadline, representatives from DC are planning to listen to pitch presentations from prospective directors in the coming week. According to the source, the leading contenders for this role include Jeff Waldow, who gained acclaim with Truth or Dare, and James Watkins, known for Speak No Evil.

Previously, it had been revealed that the renowned horror filmmaker, Mike Flanagan, was set to write a screenplay for Clayface. Currently, the planned release date for this movie is September 11, 2026.

Simultaneously, there are whispers that the casting for the upcoming production is underway too. It’s been reported that once a filmmaker becomes involved with the project, DC Studios will begin scouting for actors who match both the script and the director’s vision. Even the chosen director may review the studios, offering his preferred cast choices.

James Gunn, Peter Safran (co-chairs of DC Studios), and Matt Reeves (who won praise from Detective Comics fans for his 2022 film The Batman) are set to produce this project. During production, Lynn Harris will also be involved.

Chantal Nong is involved with the project in the role of executive producer, while Mike Flanagan is already involved with Clayface and possesses the skills of a filmmaker. However, he won’t be directing it because he has other obligations, such as working on the Exorcist reboot.

As for the type of storyline involving Clayface, it’s going to blend elements of horror, suspense, and tragedy, yet the main character won’t be depicted as a traditional antagonist.
