As a long-time DC comics enthusiast who’s been through the highs and lows of the DCEU, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation at the news of Bane and Deathstroke getting their own solo movies!
As a die-hard gamer, I can’t help but feel the thrill as DC Studios works tirelessly to construct a fresh cinematic universe, resurrecting the DCU from the embers of the old DCEU. While they’re at it, there are other exciting projects in progress too, like Matt Reeves’ gritty Batman series and Todd Phillips’ Joker saga, which is gearing up for its second act to hit theaters in a week!
According to the latest updates from The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that not one but two iconic Batman adversaries, Bane and Deathstroke, will soon be starring in their own individual movies.
Under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, DC Studios is currently working on a screenplay penned by Matthew Orton, who is known for writing the upcoming movie “Captain America: Brave New World.
Currently, I haven’t been tapped for the role yet, but that doesn’t dampen my excitement. Interestingly enough, both antagonists have graced the silver screen previously. Bane made his grand entrance in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, with Tom Hardy bringing him to life. His portrayal in The Dark Knight Rises not only received widespread acclaim but also solidified him as a notable adversary for the Caped Crusader, despite having a rather limited comic book background.
In the live-action version, Deathstroke, portrayed by Joe Manganiello, made an appearance. He was first introduced as Deathstroke in the 2017 movie “Justice League”, where he encountered Lex Luthor (played by Jesse Eisenberg) on a yacht. Luthor suggested the idea of assembling a league of villains, which could lead to an interesting alliance between these two characters.
Following Ben Affleck’s Batman project being put on hold, Joe Manganiello penned his own Deathstroke script, which garnered some attention from Warner Bros. Nevertheless, the studio chose to restart the DC Universe, leading to the movie never materializing. Despite this, Manganiello remains a solid candidate for the role.
