DC Studios Reportedly Developing a Joint BANE and DEATHSTROKE Movie

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the DC Universe, I can confidently say that the latest news about a Bane and Deathstroke team-up movie in the DCU has me both enthralled and baffled. While I’ve fought alongside these formidable foes in numerous video games, seeing them join forces on the silver screen is an intriguing prospect indeed!

Every new project or casting announcement for the emerging DC Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran has stirred up excitement, even though nothing has been released yet, we’re still thrilled about it. The latest piece of news, which we learned from The Hollywood Reporter, definitely piqued our curiosity, but also left us a bit puzzled. We haven’t even started production on the announced Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie, which will likely be the first appearance of the Caped Crusaders in the DCU, yet the studio is already working on a Bat-villain team-up film? Specifically, a movie featuring both Bane and Deathstroke.

The article under discussion clarifies that the film lacks both a title and a director, but it does possess a screenplay penned by Matthew Orton, who is among the writers working on “Captain America: Brave New World,” currently in development.

What makes Deathstroke particularly captivating is his unique composition of characters. He was initially introduced as a skilled assassin and primary adversary in Marv Wolfman and George Perez’s influential “The New Teen Titans” series in 1980, specifically issue #2. Throughout the years, he has clashed with Batman and other members of the Justice League, gradually increasing in significance. His real name is Slade Wilson, and you might recognize that Deadpool was inspired by him. Initially, Deathstroke was intended to be the antagonist in “The Batman,” a planned mainline DCEU movie starring Ben Affleck. Joe Manganiello portrayed the character briefly during the post-credits of “Justice League” in 2017, setting up his unfortunately canceled full appearance.

Bane, primarily recognized by most moviegoers as the principal villain in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” has an unforgettable presence due to Tom Hardy’s outstanding portrayal. Given his extraordinary performance, it’s no wonder he leaves a lasting impression. Before gracing our screens, Bane made his debut in 1993’s “Batman: Vengeance of Bane” #1 comic. He gained notoriety for inflicting a severe injury on Bruce Wayne during the “Knightfall” event, and like Deathstroke, he operates as a mercenary and assassin for hire. Unlike Deathstroke, who relies on skill and armor, Bane enhances his size and strength through venom toxins. As for his attire, he chooses to dress in the style of a Luchador, adding a touch of flair to his intimidating persona.

Although it might initially appear as if this scenario could lean towards a more comical style reminiscent of characters like Deadpool and Wolverine, it’s essential to note that they are not inherently humorous characters. Instead, it seems plausible that this could be an action-packed espionage film or even a cat-and-mouse chase where both characters are chasing the same objective, similar to how Batman pursues his targets. Both have been part of villainous groups such as the Suicide Squad, the Secret Six, and the Society of Super Villains. To my knowledge, a team-up between these two in a feature film was not something I had anticipated within the DC Universe.

To date, the DCU’s lineup includes powerful characters such as Superman, Supergirl, and Swamp Thing. Among these, The Authority stands out distinctly. With the Gunn and Safran company championing such innovative storytelling from writers, we remain optimistic about future developments.
