DC Icons Unite: Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman & Gunn-Cena Takeover!

During a recent meeting with investors, Warner Bros. Discovery emphasized their DC label, making the DC Universe the main attraction at Wednesday’s presentation to advertisers.

As a die-hard film enthusiast, I found myself captivated by the spotlight on Batman, Superman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman. To add to the excitement, James Gunn and John Cena also graced the screen.

Asset builders of the DCU

During a conference call with investors, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav highlighted Batman, Superman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman, stating that these four characters would serve as the “cornerstones” and “value-creators” for the DC Universe.

Batman

Absolutely, Batman stands as DC Comics’ most iconic character. Matt Reeves is working on “The Batman 2” featuring Robert Pattinson. Meanwhile, James Gunn is creating another Batman for the “Brave and the Bold” series or potentially a Superman collaboration in “World’s Finest”. Additionally, Rocksteady Studio is developing a fresh Batman video game.

Superman

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting news to share! On Wednesday, we finally got a full glimpse of James Gunn’s take on Superman, a trailer that has already stirred quite a buzz. This upcoming film, titled “Man of Steel,” is set to kick off the DC Universe and is scheduled for release on July 11th. The stakes are high with this movie, and so far, it appears to be shaping up nicely. The latest trailer seems to have added a significant boost to the anticipation.

Supergirl

A film adaptation of “Supergirl” is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026. Milly Alcock takes on the role of Superman’s relative in this upcoming production, while fans eagerly anticipate the appearance of Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Wonder Woman

Zaslav’s discussion about Wonder Woman is intriguing, considering there’s not much going on in terms of production right now. There’s the Wonder Woman video game, but it seems to be stuck in development limbo. Additionally, there was a Paradise Lost TV series in the works, but updates have been scarce. Gal Gadot has parted ways with the role of Wonder Woman following the poor performance of WW84 and Gunn’s reboot of the DCU. If Zaslav’s mention implies anything, it might mean that Gunn could be on the lookout for a new actress to play Wonder Woman, though it remains unclear if he has already started casting.

James Gunn, John Cena, Peter Safran at WBD upfronts

At the Warner Bros. Discovery event held in New York City on Wednesday, WBD unveiled several updates. The most significant change announced was the rebranding of Max to HBO Max.

At their upfronts event, WBD brought together James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-heads of DCU, alongside Shaquille O’Neal, a star in that NBA commercial with David Corenswet. John Cena was also present. They took the opportunity to highlight Supergirl, as shown in the image above.

Additionally, WBD incorporated both Gunn and Cena into promotional materials for the transition to HBO Max, linking it with the upcoming Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” set to premiere in August.

All three were also named in the official WBD press release (see below).

In simpler terms, Ryan Gould, co-President of Warner Bros. Discovery Ad Sales, stated that everything they are demonstrating today showcases their continuous growth. Unlike any other media company, WBD is unique. They have a strong base built on top-tier intellectual properties. These stories possess pre-existing fanbases and cultural significance that transcends the ordinary noise in the market.

At Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), our enthusiasm for what’s ahead has never been higher, shared Robert “Bobby” Voltagio, Co-President of Ad Sales. We are dedicated to fortifying WBD’s esteemed heritage by creating innovative, trailblazing content that shapes the zeitgeist, fuels discussions, and impacts consumer trends.
