Fans have finally gotten their first look at Lanterns, one of the most eagerly awaited new shows from DC Studios. The series will revisit the stories of Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, focusing on a more realistic and mysterious storyline set on Earth. A short teaser released by DC Studios and HBO suggests the show will have a darker, more serious feel, and the full trailer is coming out later today.
HBO is creating a new series with DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. It’s the third show planned for the revamped DC Universe, and centers around Jordan and Stewart investigating a murder. What starts as a case in rural Nebraska quickly uncovers much deeper and more disturbing secrets.

Chris Mundy is the lead on the project as showrunner, and Damon Lindelof and Tom King are also contributing to the story’s development.
Kyle Chandler will portray Hal Jordan, and Aaron Pierre will play John Stewart. Kelly Macdonald and Nathan Fillion will appear in supporting roles. The series finished filming earlier this year after a lengthy production period in Los Angeles, with James Hawes directing the first few episodes.
This show has been in the works for a long time. Plans for a Green Lantern series began in 2019, but were significantly revised after James Gunn and Peter Safran became heads of DC Studios in 2022. They decided to focus on a detective-style story, similar to popular crime shows, which ultimately led to HBO ordering the series in 2024.
Launching in mid-2026, Lanterns will be the first series in the DCU’s “Gods and Monsters” chapter, starting with eight episodes. The show will blend the established mythology of the Green Lanterns with a detective-style story, offering a fresh approach that’s new for DC.
