DC Developing New Anime-Style Action Series for Kids

As a lifelong DC comics enthusiast with an unquenchable thirst for all things animated, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of these upcoming projects! The DC Universe is about to explode with action, comedy, and a healthy dose of nostalgia that will have us reminiscing about our childhoods.

Warner Bros. has an action-packed future in store. James Gunn is constructing his DC Universe starting from scratch, with the initial project, titled “Creature Commandos“, scheduled to premiere in about two months. At the same time, Matt Reeves is shaping his Batman Crime Epic Saga, as The Penguin series is currently being broadcasted and the sequel, The Batman Part II, is planned for a 2026 launch.

Moreover, the duo, Reeves and Gunn, are currently working together on a film called Dynamic Duo, centering around the initial adventures of Jason Todd (Robin) and Dick Grayson. At present, this project doesn’t connect to either Reeves’ universe or the extensive DCU.

As a diehard fan, I’ve stumbled upon some tantalizing whispers about an upcoming project from Cartoon Network Studios! It seems they’re on the hunt for animators for a brand new series that’s still under wraps – but not for long! From what we can gather, this show in progress is inspired by DC Comics and will have an electrifying anime flair. Plus, it’s geared towards our younger fans. I can hardly wait to see what they’ve got up their sleeves!

Based on the types of directors and storyboard artists they’re hiring, it appears the series might lean towards a blend of action and humor.

It’s not likely that this is part of the “Dynamic Duo” venture, since it’s been established as a film produced by another studio. But, there’s still a chance it could be connected to the “Blue Beetle” animated series, given that it has been confirmed and is being developed by Warner Bros. Animation.

Warner Brothers Animation and DC Studios are in fact developing an animated TV show to further explore the Blue Beetle tale. Miguel Puga takes on both roles of showrunner and director, while Cristian Martinez is the scriptwriter for this project.

In simple terms, Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who directed and wrote the 2023 movie “Blue Beetle”, will serve as executive producers together with John Rikard. Galen Vaisman will take charge of the project for DC Studios.

Although some aspects are yet to be finalized, such as confirming contracts with our principal actors, DC has garnered enthusiasm from numerous actors keen on reappearing in their respective roles. The upcoming animated series will delve deeper into the Blue Beetle storyline, offering a new, self-contained narrative rather than just rehashing the movie’s plot.

Should the series prove successful, it may open doors for a new cinematic outing of the beloved character, Blue Beetle. Jamie Reyes, who is the third to don the famous identity, continues to be a fan-adored hero.
