Dax Shepard Reveals Why He Told His 11-Year-Old Daughter He’d Pay to Freeze Her Eggs

I was listening to Dax Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert, and he shared a really interesting story about a recent parenting experience. It was one of those moments that a lot of parents can probably relate to – definitely a bit of a surprise!

On Monday’s podcast, Dax Shepard discussed a conversation he had with his 11-year-old daughter, Delta (who he shares with Kristen Bell). He and co-host Monica Padman talked about how Delta has been thinking about her future and has expressed a desire to become a mother someday.

During a podcast, Shepard shared that Delta had expressed her desire to have a baby. He explained he responded by asking when she thought she might be ready, specifically mentioning age 18, because he wanted to be supportive and avoid sounding critical or imposing his own views. He wanted to make it clear he would be supportive of whatever she decided.

Shepard described Delta as being surrounded by her stuffed animals at home. He joked that when the family travels, most of their luggage is actually filled with Delta’s stuffed toys! He also expressed his belief that Delta would be a wonderful mother in the future.

When Delta mentioned she didn’t want children at 18, Shepard wondered when she might change her mind. He gathered from their conversation that she probably wouldn’t have kids until much later, perhaps between 35 and 45 years old. This led him to offer something he hoped would give her flexibility when the time came.

Shepard shared that he offered to pay to freeze his daughter’s eggs when she turned 18, hoping to relieve any future pressure about having children. He immediately added that he understands this is a fortunate position and not accessible to everyone.

Delta didn’t quite see eye-to-eye with her dad on when she should have kids. She thought her mid-20s would be a good time, but her parents felt she was underestimating how much she’d enjoy life at that age. “She’s only 11, so it probably feels like a lifetime away,” her dad joked. “She won’t be stuck at home every night with a baby.”

Dax Shepard is known for being open and honest, especially when discussing parenting on his podcast, Armchair Expert. He and his wife, Kristen Bell, are parents to a 12-year-old daughter named Lincoln, and Shepard has previously talked about his complicated feelings regarding her future romantic relationships.
