David Corenswet Reveals the Intense Journey Behind His Superman Transformation: “I Didn’t Fit Into Any of My Pants”

As a long-time DC fan, I can confidently say that 2025 is shaping up to be an exhilarating year for us enthusiasts. The much-anticipated “Creature Commandos” is just the appetizer before we dive into the main course – the rebirth of Superman, marking the true beginning of the DCU.

2025 promises to be an exceptional year for DC Studios. While the series “Creature Commandos” debuts in December, it’s important to note that the release of “Superman” is seen as the actual commencement of the DC Universe, according to James Gunn and Peter Safran.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled about the emergence of a new cinematic universe, and with it, a fresh embodiment of Superman. Though the announcement of Henry Cavill relinquishing his role as the Man of Steel left many fans disheartened, the unveiling of the initial images showcasing David Corenswet‘s superhero metamorphosis has effectively muted even the most critical voices among us.

I just spilled some tea about my intense physical transformation for a recent role on the “Manly Things (Sort Of)” podcast. I confessed that at first, it wasn’t a walk in the park – my body had a hard time getting accustomed to the extra weight it hadn’t been carrying before.

At the start of filming, I didn’t weigh 238 pounds. Instead, that was my heaviest weight. My clothes didn’t fit me properly then.

In a jovial manner, Corenswet humorously reminisced about the time he discovered he needed a 2XL size Champion sweatshirt during a table reading for the movie, as he was putting it on.

As a gamer, I had reached the zenith of my bulk, stacking on pounds like no tomorrow. But then, bit by bit, I began shedding those excess pounds before we dived headfirst into our project. When we started shooting, I was tipping the scales at around 228-230 pounds. Truth be told, this weight gain journey was my own little adventure, an experiment to explore what it felt like to push my physical boundaries to the max.

Among numerous male actors portraying superheroes, Corenswet is among those who are now openly discussing the difficulties that come with gaining muscle or dehydrating for a role, in order to maintain the desired appearance.

Hugh Jackman has lately discussed the challenges involved in sticking to his high-calorie meal plan to preserve his physical form for “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.

Regardless, fans are eagerly awaiting Corenswet’s debut as Superman, with the movie set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
