Dave Filoni Teases Progress on ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2: “I’m Well Into Writing It”

As a dedicated Star Wars enthusiast with over two decades of immersing myself in this galaxy far, far away, I eagerly await the second season of ‘Ahsoka’. Dave Filoni‘s dedication to crafting compelling narratives is well-known, and his single-handed effort as the show’s writer adds an intriguing layer of anticipation.

Originally planned as a miniseries, ‘Ahsoka’ was later reassessed, with possibilities for a second season hinging on its performance. After the premiere of the first season in October 2023, Dave Filoni, who was already working on a film connecting ‘The Mandalorian’ and its offshoots, decided to concentrate on the potential development of a second season instead.

By January 2024, it was confirmed that Filoni was actively working on the second season of the project, aligning with his new position as the Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm, where he would be responsible for supervising upcoming endeavors.

Information about the second season of the series remains scarce, but showrunner Filoni has provided some insights into its production. He revealed that he is personally responsible for penning ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2, immersed in the writing process. Despite finding joy in the creative journey, he admitted that crafting and resolving storylines has proven to be a complex undertaking.

I’m deeply involved in it too. I’ve been penning it myself and I’m the sole author. I find it quite enjoyable, though it does come with its difficulties. Working out certain plotlines has proven to be particularly challenging.

One significant hurdle in the upcoming second season is undeniably the enigma surrounding Ray Stevenson’s character, Baylan Skoll. To refresh your memory, at the end of the first season, it wasn’t clear what Baylan Skoll intended; however, his lingering gaze at the statues of the Mortis Gods on Peridea hints at potential future intentions. As described by Filoni, Baylan Skoll is a man driven by dangerous ambition.

On May 21, 2023, Stevenson sadly passed away, only four days before his 59th birthday. The specific cause of his death has not been revealed, but it’s known that he was admitted to a hospital during the production of ‘Cassino in Ischia’, an Italian film set on the island of Ischia.

Now that we’re moving ahead with the series, how does this affect the character who was expected to play a significant role in future installments? Previous speculations suggested that the character might reappear in the second season following a recasting.

As for the buzz, it seems the creators are planning to conclude ‘Ahsoka’s story in its second season entirely, should there be no renewal for a third one.
