In a statement, actor Dave Bautista, known for his role as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has indicated that he’s finished portraying this character. Yet, he remains open to reprising the role if it’s director James Gunn who extends the invitation.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel a strong connection to the character Drax, much like my own self. If ever the creative genius, James Gunn, were to call and propose an opportunity for me to reprise the role of Drax, well, let’s just say I wouldn’t be able to resist!
Previously known WWE star remarked, “If James were to reach out, but that’s not likely since he’s doing fine and has chosen a different path. As for a fourth Guardians of the Galaxy film, given Gunn’s new role as co-head at DC Studios, it seems unlikely we’ll see one soon.
As I’ve hung up my hammer (or sword) from my days as Drax, I find myself drawn to the thrilling world of superhero cinema once more. Truth be told, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement about stepping into a new role within either the Marvel or DC universe. Who knows? Maybe next time around, I’ll embody an entirely different hero, ready to save the day in my own unique way!
Bautista expressed his enthusiasm for the realm of comic book heroes and the superhero universe. He shared his dream of rejoining this world, be it with Marvel Studios or DC Comics. Furthermore, he has made it known to James Gunn and the Russo brothers about his eagerness for potential future roles.
Bautista shared that he’s had direct conversations with James Gunn and the Russo brothers, expressing his continued enthusiasm for potential future roles. He emphasized that they shouldn’t rule him out and mentioned his readiness to step into any character that fits him well. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that for him, the Drax character has reached its conclusion.
In 2014, Bautista made his debut as Drax in the movie “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which was helmed by James Gunn. Later, he took up the character again in its subsequent films in 2017 and 2023.
Besides playing Drax in the Marvel films, he was also featured in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), which were helmed by the Russo brothers, Antony and Joe. Moreover, he made an appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), under the direction of Taika Waititi.
