So far, the initial three episodes of Marvel’s “Daredevil: Born Again” have not managed to appear on the Nielsen television rating charts.
It’s been discovered that the initial two episodes, both aired during the same evening, didn’t appear on the Nielsen ratings, as they are now enabled by default on your Disney+ accounts.
For the third episode, broadcasted on March 11th, it’s important to note that Nielsen measures all episodes from a specific weekly period. This implies that the first three episodes are not receiving significant viewership and are unlikely to be watched in bulk (i.e., binge-watched).
What are the ratings?
As a movie critic, I must confess that Netflix’s “Temptation Island” has found itself at the foot of the popularity rankings with a mere 464 million minutes watched. This means that Daredevil: Born Again, which is yet to make an appearance on the charts, will likely be sitting below it in terms of viewership.
The low ratings correspond well with Disney’s initial viewership figures for the premiere episodes, as they reported that “Daredevil: Born Again” garnered approximately 7.5 million views within the first five days.
It’s been proposed that the viewership of Disney’s ‘Daredevil’ might be lower than ‘Agatha’, given that the latter garnered 9.3 million views within its first week.
What is going on?
It appears that the situation with Marvel on Disney+ mirrors that of Star Wars, as fan interest seems to be waning.
It seems that both Marvel and Star Wars have been producing subpar material, to the extent that their audience’s interest has waned.
In terms of Star Wars, I’d say the first two seasons of The Mandalorian were enjoyable, but things started to decline significantly afterwards; season three was lackluster and, aside from Andor, the rest of the shows haven’t been very impressive. Unfortunately, The Acolyte seems to have dealt the final blow, as Skeleton Crew didn’t attract many viewers, despite not being terrible per se.
Marvel’s “Loki” series might not have matched the popularity of other shows like “The Sopranos” or “Game of Thrones” on Disney+, as it was initially quite successful but saw a decrease in viewership for its second season. Some believe that Kevin Feige made an error by premiering with “WandaVision,” which is generally well-regarded, although it could have been even better. However, criticism suggests that due to Marvel’s focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, Doctor Strange was excluded from the series because he is white and male. This decision may have also affected “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Feige continued to follow the same pattern with Hawkeye, which left Jeremy Renner feeling embarrassed. Moon Knight didn’t meet expectations. The humor in She-Hulk fell flat. There seems to be little interest in Ms. Marvel, yet the character continues to be heavily promoted. Secret Invasion, described as a massive bomb, is an understatement of the year. What about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier? Captain America: Brave New World is another disappointment.
Initially, I exposed that “Daredevil: Born Again” had turned out to be a failure and was undergoing changes. However, it seems like those changes weren’t extensive enough. Despite filming approximately six episodes, Feige opted not to re-shoot the entire project, which was his error. Instead, you can detect where the “retooling” took place through minimal production adjustments and edits.
As a discerning movie critic, I’ve noticed a significant shift in the production value of some recent Marvel series. The budget cuts, apparently imposed by Disney, seem to have taken their toll on the quality of shows like Daredevil, Agatha, and Echo. These once vibrant and engaging stories now appear to be grappling with fewer resources, which is a pity for fans who eagerly anticipate each new episode.
Given the subpar characters and lackluster production, it’s no wonder that the audience is choosing to disengage. They’re expressing their dissatisfaction through their spending habits and viewing choices – it seems they’re just not finding it appealing.
