Daredevil FLOPS: Is Disney+ Dead?

I regret to inform you that, as anticipated, the initial two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again have failed to show up on Nielsen’s rating charts. This aligns with our expectations that the viewership for this series is quite low, similar to shows like Echo, Agatha, and even Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. These are among the least-watched MCU shows on Disney+.

Initially, the first pair of episodes became available on March 4th. Later, ratings data for the entire week from March 3rd to March 9th was published by Nielsen.

In your Disney+ accounts, Nielsen is activated by default, and it’s widely recognized as the benchmark for audience measurement within the media industry.

What are the ratings?

Since Amazon’s “Invincible” has reclaimed the top 10 spot on the charts with over 465 million minutes watched, and “Daredevil: Born Again” is not included in the list, it can be inferred that “Daredevil: Born Again” falls below the 10th position.

Initially, Agatha managed to secure a spot on the Nielsen rankings with an impressive viewership of 426 during its two-episode debut. However, if Agatha had been airing simultaneously with Daredevil: Born Again, it wouldn’t have been included in the list due to the competition. Interestingly, Agatha was subsequently removed from the Nielsen charts but reappeared once more for its two-episode finale.

Back in March, Disney didn’t disclose viewership numbers for Daredevil: Born Again, but they did for a show called Agatha. Agatha managed to attract 9.3 million views within its first seven days. On the other hand, Daredevil: Born Again reportedly didn’t surpass that number in its first five days, which means its viewership could be around 7.5 million times 5/7 of the total days (426 or lower). However, if fans decide to binge-watch Daredevil: Born Again, it might still make it onto the charts.

What does it mean?

It appears that Daredevil: Born Again was extensively marketed and premiered on Netflix initially, which suggests that Marvel enthusiasts are not engaging with Disney+. Instead, they seem to have lost interest, and it’s likely they’ve also cancelled their subscriptions.

They don’t seem keen on shows such as She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Echo, Agatha, nor the disappointments like Secret Invasion. It’s worth noting that a large majority of Deadpool & Wolverine moviegoers aren’t subscribing to the MCU on Disney+.

Star Wars’ impact on Disney+ wasn’t positive due to the poor reception of Season 3 of “The Mandalorian” and “The Acolyte,” as well as the lack of interest in “Skeleton Crew.

I’d like to point out another factor: the remodeled “Daredevil: Born Again” isn’t exactly a standout series in my opinion. Unfortunately, Marvel could have done better during the retooling process. The subpar production quality, particularly noticeable in scenes where reshoots were carried out, is quite evident. However, Charlie Cox’s performance remains the highlight of the show. Here’s hoping for improvements soon.
