‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Will Include “a Bit of a Wink” to Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel

In the upcoming Marvel series, “Daredevil: Born Again,” the storyline is expected to become more vibrant by introducing humorous and dramatic aspects courtesy of Yusuf Khan, played by Mohan Kapur. Known for his role as Kamala Khan’s father in “Ms. Marvel,” Yusuf will now be part of Matt Murdock’s universe, bringing a distinctive mix of humor and gravitas to the show.

Sana Amanat, an executive at Marvel Studios, spoke about the part played by Yusuf in the series. She found it an enjoyable and challenging task, filled with laughter. According to her, this is a distinctly MCU element – injecting the comedic energy that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is renowned for into Yusuf Khan’s cameo.

The predicament is that our reality isn’t like the one in Ms. Marvel’s stories. Instead, it seems more aligned with Daredevil’s world, so it’s important to maintain a tone suitable for Matt Murdock. Interestingly, we’ve discovered a depth in this approach because Yusuf Khan has experience with superpowered individuals.

Although he may not recognize Matt Murdock, his responses were quite entertaining since they seemed less surprised than one might expect. The episode also contained some intriguing instances that subtly paid tribute to Ms. Marvel, so it’s likely that viewers will find these moments delightful.

As a dedicated cinephile, I must say that the upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again” promises to delve deep into Matt Murdock’s life as both a vigilante and a lawyer in New York City, with a focus on the grittier, more somber aspects. However, the introduction of characters like Yusuf Khan adds a refreshing, lighter dynamic that harmoniously balances the tone without undermining the narrative’s core storyline.

The series is expected to preserve the gritty realism of Daredevil’s tale, potentially accommodating guest appearances by characters like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage whose stories align with the urban, street-level genre.

Brad Winderbaum, the executive producer, discussed Yusuf’s transition into the Daredevil universe with EW: “Yusuf is friendly, but this episode is intense and carries significant consequences, and all of a sudden, he finds himself in an entirely new world compared to his time on Ms. Marvel,” emphasizing the captivating mix of comic-book atmospheres that fans enjoy.

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil makes a notable comeback in “Born Again,” with key characters from the Netflix series such as Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, and Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll reappearing as Foggy and Karen. This series is set to blend past and current narratives, bringing together former allies and adversaries in exciting new plot developments.
