In a fresh perspective, Charlie Cox returns as the Man Without Fear, and showrunner Dario Scardapane promises that the level of violence in “Daredevil: Born Again” will be unbelievable.
Back when the news wasn’t widespread yet, I shared with you my initial thoughts about how Daredevil: Born Again seemed to be a mess. However, I mentioned that Marvel and Kevin Feige were planning some changes for the series. As it turned out, rumors circulated that Feige had dismissed the original creative team, and as I predicted, reports confirmed that the show was indeed being reworked. Additionally, I hinted that Feige was aiming to align the new version more with the Netflix series.
What does the showrunner say about Daredevil: Born Again?
“Level of violence is way up”
In the current edition of Empire Magazine, showrunner Dario Scardapane has disclosed that the violence in “Daredevil: Born Again” surpasses any level of violence previously presented in an MCU Disney+ series (with “Moon Knight” possibly being the most violent).
The amount of violence in this Marvel/Disney series is exceptionally high. I can’t think of anything else that comes close.
More than Netflix
Scardapane also says the violence is way more than Netflix:
“There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batshit, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”
“Further in the darkness”
As a seasoned film critic, I eagerly anticipated the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as the formidable Kingpin. His performance, while consistently impressive, left me yearning for a more captivating narrative than his recent portrayal in Hawkeye. Here’s to hoping this time around, the writers deliver a more satisfying storyline for both the character and the audience.
In an alternate scenario, one could argue that if the series continued, we’d inevitably end up in a similar situation. However, we’ve ventured even deeper into complexities, challenges, and unpleasantness.
Fresh approach
The showrunner also says he didn’t want Daredevil: Born Again to be more of the same:
Typically, each season concludes with them brutally fighting and Kingpin getting imprisoned, but I didn’t want to follow that pattern because it creates too much tension. Instead, there’s only one scene between them in the first episode that sets up the entire plot, and for the rest of the eight episodes, we keep testing this tension.
Release info
The highly-anticipated series “Daredevil: Born Again” makes its debut on Disney+ on March 4th, 2025. This action-packed show features an impressive cast including Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Ayelet Zurer, and Jon Bernthal.
There’s much anticipation that the upcoming series could mark a fresh path for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which has experienced a slump since the launch of “Captain Marvel” in 2019. To date, the MCU films have struggled at the box office and viewership of the MCU shows on Disney+ appears to be dwindling.
