‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Test Screenings Tease a Gloomier, Grittier Tone Compared to the Netflix Series

As a long-time Daredevil fan who has weathered through thick and thin with this character, I must say that the recent developments in the production of Daredevil: Born Again have me both worried and excited. The initial direction seemed to be straying too far from the gritty, action-packed series we loved on Netflix, but now it seems Marvel is getting back on track.

Originally, the concept of “Daredevil: Born Again” turned out to be a disastrous misstep. It predominantly revolved around courtroom drama, offering minimal action sequences involving Daredevil himself. This style of presentation drew widespread criticism, leading Marvel to significantly alter their approach when planning the series’ development.

By September 2023, following the completion of six out of eighteen episodes, Marvel Studios opted to alter the show’s course.

Corman, Ord, and other directors were dismissed from their positions following a review of the footage by executives, who determined that the series wasn’t meeting its intended goals.

The Marvel team’s method deviated noticeably from Netflix’s portrayal, resulting in Charlie Cox not debuting as Daredevil until the fourth episode. They aimed to preserve certain filmed sequences while infusing fresh components and aligning more closely with the original Netflix show’s tone.

Regardless of recent developments, Corman and Ord were still slated for executive producer credits. Last October, Dario Scardapane, a writer from Netflix’s “The Punisher”, was named as the new showrunner. This move signifies Marvel’s transition towards a more conventional methodology in television production.

Originally, the initial version of “Daredevil: Born Again” didn’t include Deborah Ann Woll’s character Karen or Elden Henson’s Foggy. Charlie Cox discussed this extensively. Later, during reshoots, both Karen and Foggy were incorporated, along with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.

Originally, Karen and Foggy were intended to meet their demise during the time period between Netflix’s Daredevil series and Daredevil: Born Again, a decision that led to strong criticism from fans.

Presently, following comprehensive retakes, viewings of the TV series “Born Again” are being conducted, and whispers indicate that the new production might have a more ominous and raw feel compared to the initial Netflix version.

Each episode runs for about an hour and includes several cameos. A funeral occurs in the first few episodes, and the initial test screenings have received positive feedback.

‘DAREDEVIL: A NEW BEGINNING’ showcases a darker and more intense narrative compared to its Netflix counterpart.

Among the captivating elements, the upcoming funerals seem particularly significant, given speculations that either Foggy or Karen might perish in the early episodes of the series. A recent leak from the set shows Karen weeping over Foggy’s lifeless body on the sidewalk, which strengthens the theory surrounding their potential demise.
