Daredevil: Born Again Tanks: Even Worse Than Echo’s Viewer Numbers

It appears that the anticipated viewership for the series “Daredevil: Born Again” has fallen short of expectations, as its ratings have turned out to be lower than those of “Echo,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) show on Disney+ with the lowest viewership.

Disney+ numbers

In my perspective as a supporter, it’s clear that Disney has confirmed “Daredevil: Born Again” garnered roughly 7.5 million views in its initial five days. This figure is surprisingly close to what “Agatha” managed, with 9.3 million views in its first seven days. The jury’s still out on whether “Daredevil” overtook “Agatha” in the full week, but if we average daily viewership, “Daredevil” at least claims the lead. It’s uncertain if it could have bridged the gap in those additional two days, but we can only work with the figures that have been disclosed. The viewership numbers for “Daredevil: Born Again” are, undeniably, quite disappointing.

Luminate numbers

Currently, we’re gathering additional information from Luminate, a platform owned by Penske Media. Notably, Penske Media controls numerous entertainment news sites such as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, among others, which are quite prominent in the industry.

To start off, it’s worth noting that Luminate’s data suggests that “Loki” Season 2 is near the bottom of the list, a claim that seems unlikely given Disney’s reported figures for the show’s first three days, which totaled 10.9 million views. Therefore, it might be prudent to scrutinize Luminate’s data and its sources.

Below Echo, Secret Invasion, Loki S2

In summary, Luminate’s data reveals that the first-week viewership for “Daredevil: Born Again” was less than both “Echo” and “Secret Invasion.” It’s interesting to mention that “Echo” was released with all its episodes at once, resulting in a substantial initial surge followed by a significant drop. Conversely, “Secret Invasion” debuted with only one episode, whereas “Daredevil: Born Again” had two.

It’s worth noting that after the second week, “Daredevil: Born Again” is lagging behind shows like “Agatha,” “Loki” Season 2, “Secret Invasion,” and even “Echo.” By day ten, it had already fallen behind “Echo,” having released three episodes. This isn’t a particularly positive indication for the series.

Variety tries to spin things

Surprisingly, the piece in Variety seems to be attempting to portray the ratings of Daredevil: Born Again as a success, even though Disney’s own statistics reveal that the viewership is significantly lower than one might expect.

The term “Variety” humorously questions the credulity of people by stating that “Daredevil: Born Again” has remarkably outperformed expectations during its debut in the ongoing phase of Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, and it is considered one of the more robust premieres.

It seems that the recent phases of Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, such as Agatha, Secret Invasion, Echo, and even Loki’s second season, have struggled with low viewership compared to their predecessors. This isn’t exactly a triumph to celebrate, is it?

Why aren’t Marvel fans watching Daredevil: Born Again?

70% or more of MCU fans aren’t tuning in

It appears that most Marvel fans are skipping the new series “Daredevil: Born Again”. To give you an idea, it’s estimated that 70-90% of Marvel fans aren’t tuning in. To support this, we can look at the box office earnings of Deadpool and Wolverine compared to Captain America: Brave New World. The difference is a significant 70%, showing that more people are choosing to watch Deadpool over the latest Captain America film. Given this trend, it’s not unreasonable to assume even fewer Marvel fans are engaging with Disney+.

Kevin Feige has failed MCU fans

It appears that the content created by Kevin Feige for Disney+ may have lost some fans’ interest, causing them to cancel their subscriptions and stop watching. This is similar to the effect Kathleen Kennedy has had on Star Wars on Disney+. The shows Hawkeye and She-Hulk didn’t help Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Kingpin, and now Daredevil: Born Again seems to be making things even worse with the introduction of Kingpin’s wife as a more powerful character who may take over his role. So far, Daredevil has only appeared once in costume in a low-budget scene that was reshot for the show’s retooling.

Feige and his team at Marvel initially considered it wise to eliminate characters like Foggy and Karen, replacing them with diversity-focused characters, similar to how Captain America: Brave New World, The Marvels, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and others have been developed. However, one may wonder if this strategy has proven successful?

Will the ratings go up?

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but eagerly anticipate the Nielsen ratings that are yet to come out. Disney+ meticulously gathers these stats through your account, and while we’re still a few weeks away from seeing them, I have high hopes that, similar to WandaVision, viewership will grow with each new episode. The thought of decreasing viewership is something I can hardly fathom. Tonight marks the release of another installment of Daredevil: Born Again – here’s hoping it’s as thrilling as ever!

As Samba TV persists in not sharing viewing statistics for the Marvel series, this secretive behavior further stokes speculation that Daredevil: Born Again and other Marvel Cinematic Universe shows on Disney+ are struggling.
