In the series “Daredevil: Born Again,” there were hints and connections made to several characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One such character subtly referenced was Spider-Man, as seen in the final episode of season one. Although it may have been a small detail, attentive Marvel fans quickly spotted this Easter egg.
In this particular setting, Deborah Ann Woll’s character, Karen Page, and Charlie Cox’s character, Matt Murdock, are strategizing to take down Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) and his associates from a concealed location near the Red Hook Pier.
Karen Page and Matt Murdock are hatching a plan against Kingpin and his gang, secretly stationed at the outskirts of the Red Hook Pier.
Near the closing of their discussion, Murdock confessed, “We’ll require a large force.” And as he spoke, an unexpected tune echoed, reminiscent of Michael Giacchino’s Spider-Man melody, in the background music.
The hidden reference ignited excitement for the sequel and possible Marvel Cinematic Universe collaborations within the show. The discreet clue sparked a buzz online as people posted their surprised responses on social networks, with one fan expressing hope that Spider-Man would appear in the second season.
1st User: “The first person said they were asking Sony to allow Spider-Man to join Daredevil’s group.”
2nd User: “A second user jokingly suggested that the situation seemed eerily similar to a recurring theme in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with the phrase ‘MCU Spider-Man leitmotif’ being used before Matt mentioned needing an army.”
3rd User: “The third user questioned whether they were simply imagining things or if this was another instance of the familiar pattern found within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) storytelling, where the phrase ‘MCU Spider-Man leitmotif’ is used just before Matt calls for an army.
Showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again, Dario Scardapane, has finally spoken up regarding the Easter egg and its significance. He explained to Entertainment Weekly, “To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. That’s about the best I can say on the matter. Marvel doesn’t always share their plans with me.
Dario confessed that he, too, was caught off guard by the public’s response. He clarified that he doesn’t know anything at this point regarding a possible Spider-Man and Daredevil team-up, though it’s possible he’s keeping quiet about it!
In a universe as expansive as the Marvel Cinematic one, nothing is beyond reach; it’s always filled with unexpected twists, much like Dario’s experience working within it. He playfully commented that his area of focus, Hell’s Kitchen, serves as a small district close to Avengers Tower.
He mentioned that when someone shows an interest in a particular area or neighborhood, it often sparks conversations about specific characters and their anticipated outcomes. However, he hasn’t encountered this type of discussion with the character of Spider-Man as of yet.
Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney+.
