Danny Koo Talks ‘Marvel Rivals’ & What Makes It Different Than Other 6v6 Hero Shooters

As someone who has grown up with Marvel comics and movies as a significant part of my life, I am beyond excited for “Marvel Rivals”. The idea of being able to control Marvel heroes or villains in a six-vs-six team-based superhero shooter is simply mind-blowing.

The game titled ‘Marvel Rivals’ – a thrilling third-person action shooter – is currently being developed jointly by NetEase Games and Marvel Games. When it launches, players will be able to enjoy this exciting experience without any charges, on systems including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

This game offers 6-on-6 player-against-player conflicts, enabling participants to leverage “Dynamic Character Interaction” for enhanced battle effectiveness. The game boasts a roster of 33 playable Marvel characters, spanning settings like Asgard and Tokyo 2099.

In this game, you’ll find three different play styles: Convoy, Domination, and Convergence. The narrative revolves around Doctor Doom and his 2099 version, resulting in various universes colliding. Characters, both heroes and villains, engage in battles to ensure neither Doctor Doom emerges victorious.

Lately, we’ve got our hands on the new trailer for the game, revealing all its characters. More details about the game’s development have been shared by Danny Koo, Executive Producer at Marvel Games, who recently appeared on The Official Marvel Podcast.

Koo stated that ‘Marvel Rivals’ provides a distinctive gaming experience by merging well-known Marvel settings and characters into a six-versus-six, third-person team battle involving superheroes shooting each other. This is the only game where players can manage Marvel heroes or villains in this style of gameplay.

A while back, we were brainstorming about creating the best game ever, right? On the Marvel front, we noticed a gap – player-versus-player games. So, we began wondering, what kind of game should we develop? Eventually, we settled on an idea: “How about we create a six versus six video game featuring our most iconic superheroes and villains?

The creator explained that this game combines well-known Marvel locations and figures in an exceptional manner, providing a distinctly unique six-versus-six superhero shooting experience. The game’s captivating narrative, a key aspect of Marvel, allows players to quickly identify settings such as Tokyo 2099 or Asgard.

In various emblematic sites across the Marvel Universe, they clash. The gameplay, being a reminiscence of previous Marvel Rivals experiences and the familiarity with the Marvel Universe that fans have grown accustomed to, blends seamlessly. When combined, there’s simply no better description. It’s essentially the one six versus six third-person team-based superhero shooter where you can embody either Marvel heroes or villains.

Marvel excels at creating narratives, a knack that’s deeply ingrained in their creative process. Therefore, it’s essential to continue storytelling. For instance, stepping into Tokyo 2099, you can instantly recognize its location and the era due to its name. This futuristic city is governed by characters reminiscent of the Spider-Verse’s Spidey heroes. In contrast, Asgard and the Nine Realms are united under a massive tree called Yggdrasil.

We smashed all this stuff together. The things that are familiar but very different and fresh.

Koo also mentioned that the game will feature a lot of Easter Eggs.
