It became known in October 2022 that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were collaborating on a fresh Star Wars movie, provisionally titled ‘New Jedi Order’. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was slated to direct this project. The storyline was expected to unfold post the sequel trilogy, potentially introducing characters from those films.
Initially, Lindelof and Britt-Gibson were the screenwriters, but they departed by March 2023. Later, Steven Knight took over their roles. In April 2023, it was confirmed that Daisy Ridley would reprise her role as Rey. However, by October 2024, even Steven Knight had left, and George Nolfi stepped in to write the screenplay. Now, filming is anticipated to commence towards the end of 2025.
The film has encountered multiple postponements and issues related to scriptwriting, leaving us unsure about its current status.
15 years following ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ the narrative unfolds in a galaxy recovering from both the war and the dissolution of the First Order, with the remnants of the Jedi struggling to regroup. Kathleen Kennedy hinted that Rey is striving to uphold her pledge to Luke by reestablishing the Jedi Order, guided by ancient Jedi manuscripts.

Even though I haven’t had a chance to read the most recent screenplay, I’m familiar with the plotline and the overall narrative. What truly impresses me is George’s exceptional writing style. I believe we are doing our utmost to ensure that this story is told in the most effective way possible – through this script. I firmly believe it will be a rewarding experience for everyone who watches, and I am genuinely excited about it!
Based on previous speculations, it was thought that this movie wouldn’t initiate a new Star Wars trilogy. However, recent changes within the franchise and ongoing discussions about Rey’s continued role suggest uncertainty in the current situation. In other words, it’s hard to predict what will happen next with the Star Wars saga.
