Daisy Ridley Breaks Silence on Star Wars: New Jedi Order — But Movie Still Looks Dead

Daisy Ridley recently shared news about the potential Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie, but unfortunately, her update doesn’t really reassure fans who are worried it might be cancelled.

In an interview with Parade, Ridley didn’t offer many details about the long-awaited project, which was first revealed in 2023 as her potential return to the Star Wars universe after The Rise of Skywalker.

Ridley stated that the project will be released when it’s finished and assured everyone it will be worth anticipating, but didn’t share any updates regarding its creation, the actors involved, or when it might come out.

Lucasfilm hasn’t announced any additional returning cast members, and a release date is still to be determined. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is lined up to direct, using the most recent script draft written by George Nolfi.

Sequel Trilogy Fallout Still Looms Large

It’s uncertain whether the movie will actually be made, as it’s one of many projects currently overseen by Kathleen Kennedy.

Following the release of The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm stopped making Star Wars movies for theaters for about seven years. This pause was largely a result of the negative reaction to The Last Jedi, which many felt harmed the franchise.

The break in production has led some to question if Disney still plans to continue making sequels, particularly since fans are divided and movie ticket sales have been uncertain.

Leadership Shakeups Could End the Project

The outlook for New Jedi Order looks even bleaker with major leadership changes on the horizon.

Most people anticipate that Kathleen Kennedy will leave Lucasfilm and Bob Iger will step down as Disney CEO, both around 2026.

Since the current leaders were involved with the recent Star Wars sequels, the new team might focus on different projects and characters, potentially moving away from stories involving Daisy Ridley and the ‘New Jedi Order’ concept.

Only Two Star Wars Movies Left on the Slate

Currently, Disney has announced release dates for only two upcoming Star Wars movies: The Mandalorian & Grogu directed by Jon Favreau (May 22, 2026), and Star Wars: Starfighter directed by Shawn Levy (May 28, 2027).
