Daily Wire Drops First Epic Trailer for Fantasy Series ‘The Pendragon Cycle’

The Daily Wire is launching a new fantasy series called *The Pendragon Cycle*, inspired by the novels of Stephen R. Lawhead. It will begin streaming on DailyWire+ on January 22nd. This is the company’s biggest TV project yet, and it represents a move into creating fictional, scripted shows, beyond their usual documentaries and films.

The project began in November 2022 when The Daily Wire bought the rights to create movies and TV shows based on Lawhead’s book series.

So, I was really surprised to hear that Jeremy Boreing, one of the founders and CEOs, stepped away from his usual role last July to actually direct a seven-episode series himself! Apparently, they filmed it all over in Europe – Italy and Hungary were the main locations, which sounds incredible. I’m definitely curious to see how it all turned out.

Tom Sharp, a British actor, will star as Merlin in the upcoming series. He’ll be joined by Brett Cooper as Ganieda, Rose Reid as Charis, and James Arden as Taliesin, who will also play key roles.

The series also stars Finney Cassidy, Myles Clohessy, Alex Laurence Phillips, Daniel Fathers, and Emree Franklin. Filming started in Europe in September 2023.

As a longtime reader of fantasy, I’ve always been fascinated by retellings of Arthurian legend, and Stephen Lawhead’s *Pendragon Cycle* certainly delivers on that front. It beautifully blends historical fiction with fantastical elements, creating a really immersive world. What’s interesting, though, is that Lawhead initially envisioned this as a four-book series. Unfortunately, his publisher decided to halt production after the first three books – what we now know as *The Pendragon Trilogy*.

Lawhead continued the series with two more books, *Pendragon* and *Grail*, which fill in the story between the previous installments. The novel *Avalon* is set hundreds of years later, and a seventh book, *Aurelia*, came out in January of this year.

This series reimagines the stories of King Arthur within the historical setting of Roman Britain, specifically between the fourth and sixth centuries. Author Stephen Lawhead explains, “The Pendragon Cycle represents a decade-long effort to create compelling stories, rather than simply offering criticism. His novels portray a powerful and authentic Christianity set against a backdrop of war and intrigue.”

It’s not overly sweet or perfect – it feels very real, like the world we live in. I’m thrilled to finally share this version and the incredible work of everyone involved with the Daily Wire’s audience.

This new series marks a significant expansion for The Daily Wire, created by Boreing and Ben Shapiro, into producing full-scale television. Though the company has made films and animated shows before, *The Pendragon Cycle* is their most elaborate scripted project yet.
