Cynthia Erivo Teases New Powerful Song She Co-Wrote for Wicked Sequel: ‘The Cast and Crew Were Crying’

In a recent episode of Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Erivo revealed that she collaborated with Stephen Schwartz, the original composer of the musical “Wicked”, to develop a fresh song titled “For Good”. She stated, “We indeed worked together on my version.” (As reported by Entertainment Weekly)

The artist hinted that the tune might stir strong feelings in audiences, expressing, “I’m not sure if you’re prepared for it.” The actress disclosed her fondness for the song, adding that while shooting, “both the cast and team members shed tears.

She went on to say, “To be honest, I’m not sure. It could be because they were emotional, or perhaps it’s the effect of the song itself.” Erivo referred to the track as particularly “significant,” and added, “I won’t reveal any more than that.” However, she hinted, “I have a feeling that even the title alone will touch you deeply.

For the initial Wicked movie, the creators opted not to introduce any fresh tunes in their screen adaptation of the 2003 stage musical. The film boasts a talented ensemble, including Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Peter Dinklage, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, and numerous others.

It appears that the second part of the musical is scheduled for release in movie theaters on November 21, 2025, as per Entertainment Weekly reports. Interestingly, Cynthia Erivo, who portrays Elphaba, has mentioned that this installment will feature an original song by Ariana Grande (playing Glinda), along with Erivo’s own song.
