As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for Hollywood and its glittering galaxy of stars, I must say that witnessing the journey of Cynthia Erivo has been nothing short of mesmerizing. From her humble beginnings to her meteoric rise, she has consistently proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry.
On December 9th, the Golden Globes announced its nominees for the 2025 ceremony, including Wicked star Cynthia Erivo as a candidate for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. Not long after, she shared her response to being nominated for this prestigious category at the highly regarded award show.
Erivo expressed her joy about this occasion, saying she was particularly happy to have experienced it through a musical. In 2020, she received her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Actress. Additionally, she has been nominated for a Best Original Song Golden Globe, and she also earned a nod for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her portrayal of Aretha Franklin in Genius.
She made the aforequoted comment in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
In her recently released movie that garnered a nomination for the Golden Globe Awards, the performer who is both a singer and actress portrays the Wicked Witch of the West. This role is opposite Ariana Grande’s character, Glinda the Good Witch. Interestingly, Ariana Grande was also recognized with a nomination for the Golden Globes, although hers falls under the Supporting Actress category.
I’m absolutely thrilled that we could share this amazing experience together! I can’t help but feel proud of the path we’ve traveled to reach this moment. The sheer amount of dedication and effort poured into it, along with the thoughtfulness shown not just in our performances, but behind the scenes as well, truly astounds me.” – Céline Erivo (about working with Grande)
The actress expressed her excitement over her friend’s debut Golden Globes nomination as an actress, telling THR she was one of the first people she called after the nominations were announced. “I’m so proud of her,” she added.
The movie titled “Wicked,” featuring Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Peter Dinklage, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and others, is still thriving at the box office since its November 22 premiere. Initially projected to earn $114 million at the domestic box office, Universal’s film has already outperformed Grease as the highest-grossing Broadway musical ever and continues to hold a strong position.
In the run-up to award season 2025, Wicked Part Two is poised to make its appearance swiftly. The follow-up film adaptation of the 2003 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical will debut on November 21, 2025.
