Mercedes Ron first gained online attention a decade ago with her passionate love stories on Wattpad. She began writing in Spanish, and her first story, *Culpa Mía*, was published in 2015. It quickly gained popularity, earning her a Wattys Award in 2016. She continued the series with *Culpa Tuya* and *Culpa Nuestra*. The three books became a huge success online and in print, amassing a total of 3 million readers and over 30 million downloads.
The well-loved story was first made into a movie in 2023, followed by a second film at the end of 2024. The series is nearing its conclusion with the third and final movie, *Culpa Nuestra*, scheduled for release on October 16, 2025. An English-language adaptation, *My Fault: London*, premiered on February 13, 2025. Prime Video has shared all four films with fans worldwide, consistently attracting new viewers and achieving success with each release.
Culpables centers around Noah and Nick, who become step-siblings when their parents fall in love and get married. A surprising romance develops between them, but the first book explores the challenges of their initial feelings. The second book deals with the difficulties of being separated due to family interference. Ultimately, the third story reunites them at a friend’s wedding, forcing them to confront their history and consider a future together.
Before the final book, *Culpa Nuestra*, is released, we had a video call with acclaimed author Mercedes Ron, who was already anticipating another wave of congratulations.
As the mastermind behind this series, what aspects of this trilogy are you really proud of?
I’m really pleased with how the complex relationship between the characters developed in the third book. Whether you’ve seen the movie or read the book, you can definitely feel the push and pull – that constant tension. It was tough to build that dynamic over time, but I wanted readers to truly *feel* it – to recognize that these characters both love and frustrate each other. I’m a big fan of the enemies-to-lovers theme, and I’m proud of how it played out. I think it’s a really compelling part of the story, and I’m confident you’ll feel the same way when you experience it in the movie.
Are there any ideas for a continuation of the story, perhaps focusing on Noah and Nick’s child? Would you consider writing something like that?
Mercedes Ron says she’s not currently planning any more books or spin-offs related to the story. While she knows fans are interested, the existing three books are quite lengthy, and she feels the story has reached a natural conclusion for now. She isn’t ruling out the possibility of revisiting it someday, but it’s not something she’s considering at the moment.
Are you feeling a sort of pressure because the trilogy is coming to an end with this film?
As a huge fan, I was a little worried at first, but honestly, watching the movie just made me so incredibly happy! It’s become my absolute favorite, and I truly believe other fans will feel the same way. I’m overjoyed, but also a bit sad knowing this chapter is closing. Still, we all poured our hearts into making a truly amazing film, and I can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions – I just *know* the fans are going to love it!
What specifically stands out about this third movie compared to the first two?
Mercedes Ron believes this movie is fantastic, highlighting its incredible tension and surprisingly funny moments. She describes it as both sexy and humorous, and praises the stunning locations and the beautiful performances from Nicole and Gabrielle. Overall, she feels it’s a significant improvement over the previous two films and expresses a strong liking for the movie.
Looking back on this whole series of films, what’s the most important thing you want people to remember about it in 10 years?
Mercedes Ron believes the movie will be remembered as a fun, energetic teen film with action, romance, and drama. She feels it filled a gap in storytelling, as there hadn’t been many movies like it for a while. That’s why she thinks people connected with ‘Culpables’ – they were eager for a story like this, and she believes it was executed well. Ultimately, she really enjoyed the movie.
Would you want to cast any of the actors from this movie into any of your other projects?
Mercedes Ron isn’t sure she wants to work with the same actors in another project. She’d prefer audiences remember the characters – like Nicole as Noah and Gabriel as Nick – as they are now, fearing that revisiting them could diminish their impact. She wants the current portrayal of the characters to remain memorable.
