Critical Role’s THE MIGHTY NEIN Trailer Is All Dungeon, No Dragon

Critical Role isn’t just offering new content on Thursday evenings with Campaign Four; they’re also giving fans a sneak peek at their animated series, *The Mighty Nein*. Based on Campaign Two, the show arrives on Prime Video November 19th, and this preview offers the best look yet at the adaptation.

At New York Comic Con, the panel “Critical Role & Prime Video: A Decade of Adventure and The Animated World of Exandria” (available to watch for free on TopMob) gave fans a sneak peek behind the scenes and a trailer for *The Mighty Nein*. This new show is the follow-up to the popular *The Legend of Vox Machina*.

A new series called *The Mighty Nein* is about a group of people on the run, each with their own troubled past. When a powerful magical artifact called ‘The Beacon’ is stolen, they’re forced to team up to protect their world – and prevent everything from falling apart. Of course, that’s just the beginning of their story…

What Secrets Is The Mighty Nein Trailer Hiding?

We noticed a lot of interesting details in the trailer! It starts with a view of what looks like the Lucid Bastion, the royal court of the Kryn Dynasty, one of the two main groups heading towards war in the series. But based on what happens next, it could also be The Candles, the base of operations for the Cerberus Assembly – a powerful organization of mages.

A secretive group possesses the Luxon Beacon, a powerful artifact shaped like a twelve-sided die. This relic is linked to a strange magic called dunamancy, which allows its wielders to control time, gravity, the natural decay of things, and even the fabric of reality itself.

Trent Ikithon, a man with a beard who’s excitedly holding the Beacon and jokingly calling it a “weapon” (though Jester refers to him as “Mr. Icky Thong”), is surrounded by allies. These allies are either part of the Cerberus Assembly or the Volstrucker, a highly skilled group of magical assassins. The dark-skinned wizard to the left is probably Essek Thelyss, and the woman in the middle seems to be Astrid Becke.

Following this, the story shows intense fighting between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty – a fierce war called the War of Ash and Light. We then see a brief introduction to Dairon, a warrior monk from the Cobalt Soul, before the main group, the Mighty Nein, are fully introduced.

The picture shows the main characters: Beauregard Lionett, a serious monk; Fjord Stone, a cunning sailor; Jester Lavore, a mischievous tiefling; Mollymauk Tealeaf, a ringmaster with striking red eyes; Caleb Widogast, a wizard struggling with sadness; and Nott the Brave, a goblin who loves to drink grog.

Jester, known for being playfully destructive, constantly draws messy graffiti on everything she touches. Instead of drawing a hot dog, a trailer reveals she drew a self-portrait with her booking number, “318008.” If you type that number into a calculator and turn it upside down, you’ll discover a hidden message.

Yasha (Ashley Johnson), a major character, isn’t featured prominently in the initial promotional materials, though fans might speculate about a hidden reason. We do see brief shots of her later on, looking intense and wielding a large sword. According to a recent interview with Ashley Johnson and Travis Willingham in Entertainment Weekly, her storyline will be significantly revised.

The trailer also showed some exciting moments, like Jester summoning a huge pink lollipop as her spiritual weapon, the Mighty Nein struggling through the Labenda Swamp, and a fight with the Volstrucker’s magical assassins. We also got glimpses of the team’s difficult pasts, including Caleb’s traumatic experience and Fjord’s shipwreck. Plus, there was a quick shot of Molly that has fans, including me, very intrigued – though we’ll have to wait and see what it means!

Who Else Is Starring in The Mighty Nein?

Along with previously announced stars like Auli’i Cravalho, Alan Cumming, Jonathan Frakes, Rahul Kohli, Tim McGraw, Mark Strong, and Anika Noni Rose, the show will also feature Anjelica Huston, Lucy Liu, Nathan Fillion, T’Nia Miller, Felicia Day, Graham McTavish, and Ivanna Sakhno. Lucy Liu will play The Bright Queen in *The Mighty Nein*.
