Some collaborations are so perfect, you wonder how they didn’t exist sooner – and the crossover between Critical Role and The Simpsons is one of them! It’s a surprisingly brilliant pairing, considering both shows are known for incredible voice acting and immersive, over-the-top storytelling. It’s a mind-blowing combination in the best way possible. In a recent conversation, Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson) discussed Bart’s Dungeons & Dragons class with Matt Mercer from Critical Role, resulting in the creation of Bart the Bard – a truly inspired mash-up!

It’s happening! Fans are already imagining – and we’re fully on board with – a The Simpsons episode that combines the world of Dungeons & Dragons, potentially featuring voice actors from Critical Role like Matt Mercer. And now, we’re getting a sneak peek, as Nancy Cartwright and Matt Mercer team up to bring a *Dungeons & Dragonsstyle Bart Simpson to life.
Matt Mercer quickly decided what Dungeons & Dragons class Bart Simpson would be: a Bard. He explained that Bart’s high charisma, ability to do a little bit of everything, and talent for using insults would fit perfectly. Mercer envisioned a Bard who could use witty put-downs to weaken and drive away opponents, playing into Bart’s natural strengths.
How does Bart Simpson feel about being given a Dungeons & Dragons class by a Critical Role expert? Voice actor Nancy Cartwright, channeling her Simpsons persona, has Bart respond with, “Thank you very much, I take that as a compliment. Bart the Bard!”
“This is amazing!” Matt Mercer exclaimed as the surprising and delightful crossover between Critical Role and The Simpsons unfolded. True to form, Mercer couldn’t resist adding his own playful touch. In a villainous voice, he growled, “No matter what you do, young Simpson, I’m taking that cow, and you can’t stop me!” You can find the complete conversation between The Simpsons’ Nancy Cartwright and Critical Role’s Matt Mercer below, filled with more fun moments.
Yep, the Critical Role episode of The Simpsons writes itself. Bart the Bard, we’re waiting for you.
The fourth campaign of Critical Role is now available, and new episodes of The Simpsons are airing on FOX.
