In simple terms, Netflix’s new crime drama titled “Adolescence” has rapidly gained popularity, amassing an impressive 24.3 million views during its initial four-day period on the platform.
For the week of March 10-16, the popular British television series that focuses on a family navigating the aftermath of a young boy being charged with murder, topped Netflix’s English TV viewership rankings.
The initial performance of the show outshone other well-known series on the streaming platform, but Adolescence ended up being second overall on Netflix. Interestingly, The Electric State, a sci-fi movie by Joe and Anthony Russo featuring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, secured the top spot with 25.2 million views.
Surprisingly, the British miniseries “Adolescence,” which doesn’t feature major Hollywood actors, gained widespread attention across the globe. In fact, according to Netflix, it was the top-viewed show in a staggering 71 countries during its first week on air.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I couldn’t help but find myself captivated by the shadow cast by “The Electric State,” a production that had everyone buzzing due to its massive $320 million budget and an A-list cast that was sure to deliver a powerhouse performance.
Nonetheless, the movie garnered approximately 25.2 million views, which was deemed relatively modest compared to Netflix’s past blockbusters. For instance, Enola Holmes 2 amassed around 32 million views during its opening weekend, and Damsel reached nearly 35 million in just its initial three days.
Besides Adolescence, a number of other shows also saw success on the streaming platform. In its third week, Running Point took second place on the English TV chart, amassing 6 million views. This was closely followed by Zero Day, which secured third place with approximately 4.4 million views in its fourth week.
Notable mentions also go to Beauty in Black, garnering 3.9 million views during its first complete week of Season 1’s second part, and Formula 1: Drive to Survive, which secured the fifth spot with 3.2 million views in its second week.
1883, a prequel spin-off initially airing on Paramount+, recently joined Netflix and quickly climbed to the 7th spot on their most-watched list with approximately 2.9 million viewings.
