Creature Commandos Unveils New Trailer Hinting At New Wonder Woman Villain; Deets Here

As a dedicated fan of the DC Universe (DCU), I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming television series, Creature Commandos! Having grown up reading Wonder Woman comics and witnessing Circe’s enchanting yet mischievous antics, I can hardly contain my excitement to see Anya Chalotra bring this iconic character to life.

The long-awaited Creature Commandos is set to debut as the first television show within the DC Universe (DCU), centering around Amanda Waller’s covert team of monstrous operatives. During the San Diego Comic-Con 2024, a trailer was unveiled, revealing that Anya Chalotra’s character, Circe, will be featured in the series.

Previously, it was confirmed by James Gunn that Anya Chalotra would join the cast of the show. In the latest trailer, we catch a sneak peek of her unique abilities, as she converts bullets into beautiful butterflies. The character is modeled after the Greek deity with the same name. She debuted in Wonder Woman #37 from 1949 and serves as one of the three villain mentors in DC Universe Online video game.

In the world of comics, Circe is a near-immortal sorceress who possesses the ability to transform almost anything into an animal. Typically portrayed as an adversary in Wonder Woman’s storyline, she holds the belief that Diana is the second witch foretold by prophecy. Although she did not end the life of the Amazonian, her schemes were thwarted by Hermes.

In essence, Circe plays a pivotal role in igniting the famous ‘War of the Gods’ narrative. She is often portrayed as a villain across series like Supergirl, Superman, and Rip Hunter. It promises an engaging watch to see how she employs her abilities against the Creature Commandos, particularly intriguing when one team member is a hybrid creature, half-animal and half-human – a Weasel. The character is portrayed by James Gunn’s sibling, Sean Gunn.

In the upcoming series, Amanda Waller assembles a team of monstrous beings known as the Creature Commandos (Task Force M). Instead of using humans, she aims to minimize risk, having learned from her past actions with the Suicide Squad (Task Force X) and Team Peacemaker. No specific air date has been announced yet, but the series is scheduled to debut in December 2024.

James Gunn serves as the producer in charge of the show featuring stars such as Steve Agee, Maria Bakalova, Viola Davis, Frank Grill, Indira Varma, and more. Additionally, Gunn has developed a playlist inspired by Gogol Bordello and Dresden Dolls to set the series’ tone. Keep an eye out for further news regarding Creature Commandos!
