CREATURE COMMANDOS Finale Adds King Shark from THE SUICIDE SQUAD to the Team

Starting with the initial episode of “Creature Commandos“, the animated series, “Max“, had clear connections to James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker“. This connection is evident in characters such as Amanda Waller and John Economos, with Task Force M being an extension of Task Force X. In the season one finale of “Creature Commandos“, we witness another character from Task Force X joining Task Force M – the bumbling King Shark. The finale portrays him as one of Waller’s recruits for the squad in season two. This half-human, half-shark character was a standout in numerous scenes in Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad“. It appears that he has now become an official member of the Creature Commandos.

In “The Suicide Squad,” it’s Sylvester Stallone, famous for his roles in Rocky and Rambo, who lent his voice to the character of King Shark. While we might not see him reprising this role for Creature Commandos, director James Gunn has mentioned a desire to have the same voice actors as their live-action counterparts, if possible. This means there’s a chance you’ll hear Sly as King Shark again. James Gunn has an opportunity here to create something hilarious. He could place King Shark on a team with another DC villain known as The Shark, who is essentially a shark transformed into a humanoid. Interestingly, The Shark was originally a Green Lantern antagonist.

In 1994, King Shark was initially introduced in the comic book “Superboy” #0, later making a full debut in issue #9. He frequently posed as an adversary for both Superboy and Aquaman. Known as Nanaue, he was initially perceived as a mutated great white shark, but in reality, he is the child of a mythical shark deity named Chondrakha and a human woman. Another version presents him as having been raised by Amanda Waller in a lab from birth. These details are not explored in “The Suicide Squad,” so they might be delved into during season two of “The Creature Commandos.” This could potentially reveal the unusual origin story that Gunn has imagined for King Shark.
