Creative Assembly details magic item rework for Total War: Warhammer 3 in Update 6.2

Creative Assembly has disclosed some aspects regarding the upcoming significant update for Total War: Warhammer 3, named as Update 6.2. This update will feature a long-awaited overhaul of the magic item system, which will transform all the items presently in the game – approximately 800 pieces of equipment.

With a comprehensive overhaul on all equipment pieces, the mechanisms for acquiring, combining, and creating magical artifacts will undergo changes in Update 6.2. The main aim is to decrease the item drop rate, making each obtained gear piece more precious (while minimizing the excess of low-quality items), but also to make the drop system more intelligent.

In this game, instead of tossing items at you haphazardly, it will take into account what you’ve gathered, what you’re currently using, and what you might need, giving you rewards tailored to your situation. Also, future item fusions will be more strategic, with the resulting item belonging to the same category as its parents. There’s also a possibility of creating unique items when merging rare ones. Additionally, you can put the same banner on multiple armies.

In addition, five brand-new unique items will be added to the game:

  • Wyrmslayer Sword
  • Scintillating Shield
  • Accursed Armor
  • Briarsheath
  • The Fellblade – this one is being upgraded to a unique item
  • The Eight Burning Books of Khorne

Khorne’s books make for a fascinating supplement: Divided into four sets, each consisting of two volumes, they carry significant ramifications based on your chosen faction. However, Creative Assembly hints at a substantial reward for those amassing them all.

In the latest disclosure, the developer shared insights about the upcoming free additions in Update 6.2: the Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers and Blood Knights armed with swords and shields.

The Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers will now be usable by the Chaos Dwarfs, expanding their collection of siege weapons and offering an affordable alternative suitable for secondary fortifications or raiding parties. On the other hand, Blood Knights (Sword and Shield) will significantly strengthen the Vampire Counts, boasting incredible anti-infantry prowess alongside increased resilience. However, these knights may underperform against other cavalry units compared to their lance-wielding counterparts, but they excel in prolonged skirmishes with foot soldiers.

Recently, Creative Assembly unveiled the title for the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 3 expansion pack – Tides of Torment. They also confirmed that the Legendary Lord in this DLC will be Sayl the Faithless.
