Crazy Ohio County Attempts Money Handouts to Stop Homelessness Chaos

Guaranteed Income Program? Seriously?

So, now we’re just handing out cash like it’s Halloween candy? Yeah, a county in Ohio thinks, “Hey, maybe if we give people a few bucks, they’ll stop living on the streets.” Genius. Because that’s worked so well before, right? 🙄

This program, called “Stabilize Families” — because nothing says stability like a random cash splash — is backed by this nonprofit… RISE Together or whatever, and the Community Shelter Board. Basically, they’re saying, “Here, take $1,500 once,” while simultaneously throwing $500 a month at 20 families for almost a year. Because nothing screams long-term solution like a temporary handout, right? 🤦‍♂️

Turns out, homelessness in Franklin County skyrocketed six times faster than the population. Yep, from the report: there are 2,556 homeless folks now — up by 7.4%. Well, great! More people to give handouts to. Looks like a real success story in the making. 🥳

Shannon Isom, the big boss of the Community Shelter Board, says it’s “about dignity” — oh sure, because a little bit of cash is the magic elixir. “Breathing room to stabilize, plan, and dream again.” Yeah, or maybe just to buy a new cardboard box, who knows? 😅

And the CEO of RISE, Danielle Sydnor, pipes up with the usual, “Guaranteed income is a viable strategy to promote economic stability and well-being.” Because, folks, who needs jobs or housing when you’ve got a check in your hand? 💸

Oh, and Ohio State University is now involved, because of course they are. To do research, maybe find out if handing out money actually works, or just encourage more people to give up. Exciting times, huh?
