
Courteney Cox rose to fame in 1994 when she started playing Monica Geller on the hit TV show Friends. Though she initially auditioned for the part of Rachel, she became known for her portrayal of the organized and funny Monica, a role she played for a decade. Friends became a hugely popular sitcom, and Cox, along with her co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, achieved massive success, eventually earning $1 million per episode in the show’s final seasons, as noted by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Courteney Cox became a household name with Friends, but she was also building a successful film career at the same time. She appeared in popular movies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and had a guest spot on Seinfeld in 1994.
Her film career really took off with the Scream series, starting in 1996, where she played the memorable character Gale Weathers – a witty and assertive reporter. She continued to play Gale in several Scream sequels and even met her future husband, David Arquette, on the set of the first film.
The Scream franchise has become one of the most successful horror series of all time, and Cox’s performances were a key part of its success. After Friends ended in 2004, she took on diverse roles in films like 3000 Miles to Graceland, The Shrink Is In, and Zoom, and also did voice work for Barnyard.
On television, she starred in the drama Dirt (2007–2008) and then led the comedy Cougar Town (2009–2015), playing a single mom starting a new chapter. Her work on Cougar Town earned her a Golden Globe nomination, and she also showcased her directing skills by directing several episodes herself.

Throughout the 2010s, Courteney Cox broadened her career to include directing and producing. She first directed in 2012 with TalhotBlond, and later wrote, directed, and produced Just Before I Go, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival. In addition to acting, she executive-produced the game show Celebrity Name Game and the Facebook Watch series 9 Months with Courteney Cox, showcasing her versatility with both scripted and unscripted content. She continued to act in films like Mothers and Daughters (2016) and revisited her iconic role as Gale Weathers in Scream 4 (2011), staying connected to the horror genre.

Courteney Cox has been increasingly visible in major projects recently. She appeared in the 2021 reunion special of Friends, which earned an Emmy nomination, and returned to her role as Gale Weathers in the successful Scream films released in 2022 and 2023. She also stars in the Starz horror-comedy series Shining Vale (2022), playing a mother dealing with family life in a haunted house. In 2023, Cox was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, celebrating her long and successful career in television and film.
