We’re huge fans of Prime Video’s animated versions of Critical Role! The animation truly brings the worlds of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein to life with incredible detail. It’s also great that the original Critical Role voice actors continue to play their characters. However, we do miss seeing the cast in person. The actors are so skilled that their animated expressions and movements have made watching feel like so much more than just a game. And that’s why a particular Easter egg in The Mighty Nein is so clever. In episode three, “The Fletching & Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities,” we get a fun glimpse of Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey appearing in the animated world they helped create.
The Fletching & Moondrop Carnival is full of fun references to Critical Role. Listen closely and you might hear Mollymauk Tealeaf mention Percy DeRolo with the phrase “everything will be as dandy as a DeRolo” – a connection between Taliesin Jaffe’s characters in The Mighty Nein and The Legend of Vox Machina. We also see Jester create her signature lollipop weapon while playing a carnival game, and a quick appearance by Kiri, the aarakocra child. But the best Easter egg is when Fjord and Jester walk through a Hall of Mirrors. The mirrors show them different versions of themselves, and if you look closely, you can spot an animated version of Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey – a clever nod to the actors who bring these characters to life!
As dedicated fans of Critical Role, we’re enjoying Campaign 4, which features both the original cast and some exciting new performers. While it’s great to hear those familiar voices, we definitely miss seeing the actors themselves – especially Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey. It’s really fun to see them as themselves, rather than just as their characters. We love how this campaign includes a clever nod to the previous one, The Mighty Nein, by playfully blending the lines between the characters Jester and Fjord, and the actors Travis and Laura. It’s a perfect example of what makes Critical Role so special, and it officially makes Travis and Laura a part of The Mighty Nein’s story, which we absolutely love!

Imagine if the character Jester encountered Laura Bailey within an animated series based on Critical Role. It would be chaotic! And a meeting between Essek and Matt Mercer? Let’s just say we wouldn’t be prepared for the fallout.
You can now watch The Mighty Nein on Prime Video! The first three episodes are available now, with new episodes coming out every Wednesday. We’re excited to see what hidden details and references we discover in future episodes.
