Could The Simpsons and Family Guy Be Leaving Fox for Disney Plus and Hulu? What We Know So Far

As a dedicated follower of these animated shows for over three decades, I must say, this news has me feeling like Homer Simpson with a donut in his hand – excited yet apprehensive! The potential shift of The Simpsons and Family Guy to streaming platforms could be a game-changer.

It’s possible that Fox’s famous animated series, The Simpsons and Family Guy, may leave their current broadcaster in the future. In early 2023, these shows were renewed for two more seasons, along with Bob’s Burgers for the 2024-25 season. However, they could be exploring a new direction by potentially moving to streaming platforms.

Over the weekend at the D23 event, Disney revealed a possible future for sitcoms they own: The Simpsons, now in its 36th season, will debut four exclusive new episodes on Disney+, according to TVLine. This marks the first time that the Emmy-winning series will air separate episodes on their streaming platform, which also features a two-part Christmas special.

In the same vein, The Family Guy is scheduled for two holiday specials on Hulu. Meanwhile, Fox has been expanding its collection of original animated shows such as Housebroken, Grimsburg, and Krapopolis. This expansion has sparked speculation that 20th Century Studios’ shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy might transition to streaming platforms in the future and potentially part ways with Fox.

The latest series from Fox, titled “Universal Basic Guys,” has been promptly renewed for a second season, along with Grimsburg, while Krapopolis has been given the go-ahead for seasons 2, 3, and 4. Unfortunately, Housebroken was terminated after only two seasons.

As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed a change in the airing schedule of my beloved show, Family Guy. After gracing Sunday nights for 22 seasons, it has now moved to Wednesday evenings. This shift marks the first time in two decades that the series has been held back for midseason, apparently to highlight Fox originals during the fall, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

As a devoted fan, I can confidently say that shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy account for a considerable chunk of Fox’s overall viewership and impressive ratings. According to TVLine’s latest reports, Season 35 of The Simpsons drew in 2 million viewers and a 0.6 demo rating. Unsurprisingly, these numbers placed it at the top of Fox’s animated series lineup. With the upcoming premiere of The Simpsons Season 36, I eagerly anticipate more laughter and entertainment.

In Season 22, Family Guy, not a Fox original, followed The Simpsons with 1.44 million viewers and a 0.45 rating in the key demographic, making it the second-most watched show on the network. Similarly, Bob’s Burgers didn’t miss this popularity trend, attracting 1.35 million viewers and a 0.45 demo rating, which placed it third among viewers on the same network.

It appears that the data strongly suggests that Fox’s animation dominance is significantly impacted by the animated series produced by 20th Century Studios, and it might negatively affect the network if these three shows were to transition to streaming platforms.

In September 29th, you can catch the 36th season of The Simpsons along with the 15th season of Bob’s Burgers. Meanwhile, Family Guy’s 23rd season will premiere during the mid-season.
