As a seasoned player of Brown Dust 2 who’s seen my fair share of battles and strategies, let me tell you about one hero that stands out from the rest: PMB Eleaneer. Now, I’ve faced my share of Granhildrs, those pesky light-type tanky girls with their energy guards and taunts, but not anymore! With PMB Eleaneer in my team, I can easily deal with them, thanks to her dark type advantage and the ability to remove those annoying buffs at a reduced SP cost.
+ One of three characters with buff removal (the others being Schera and Yuri)
+ One of the best counters to Granhildr in PVP thanks to her low SP cost
+ High base crit rate (20%), which is especially useful in PVP
Eleaneer boasts a top-tier equipment set. The Piercing Magic Bow serves to remove buffs, while the B-Rank Idol is capable of silencing opponents.
In present-time engagements for PVE fights, there are alternative dark figures boasting superior damage output and/or area of effect (AOE), particularly Eclipse and Luvencia.
- Investment to at least +3 required to get SP reduction (which is essential in PVP)
- Schera is better for continuous buff removal
Eleaneer for PVE
At the game’s debut, PMB.Eleaneer was one of the costumes offered. As is common with gacha games, power creep occurs, making launch costumes less powerful over time. However, in BrownDust2, the developers have managed power creep effectively: although there are now dark attackers who surpass Eleaneer in strength, she remains quite competitive even after a long period.
Eleaneer initially has a base attack power of 352, which is average compared to other attacking characters. However, when boosted to +5 full potential, PMB.Eleaneer delivers an attack of 3 times 195%, making it strong. Currently, any costume that can deal approximately 600% area-of-effect damage is considered excellent, while costumes dealing more than 600% are deemed outstanding.
Eleaneer’s small 3-tile AOE is a significant drawback for use in PVE. In particular, if the mid column is empty, she can only hit 1 enemy at a time.
Let’s look at the competition in terms of damage from other dark attackers.
In the realm of Area of Effect (AOE) damage, Eclipse stands as a strong competitor. Her damage potential, particularly when wearing her Dimension Witch costume (3×200%) and Nightmare Bunny costume (3×220%), is comparable to that of PMB.Eleaneer (3×195%). However, it’s worth noting that the multiplier for PMB.Eleaneer’s damage is slightly lower than Eclipse’s costumes. Yet, Eleaneer has a higher base Attack stat (352) compared to Eclipse’s base Magic Attack (302). This suggests they are roughly equal in terms of raw damage output.
Regarding single-target damage, the latest addition to our roster, Deal Snatcher Luvencia, is uncontested in her dominance. Even at her weakest point (her power decreases with the number of targets), a fully upgraded +5 Luvencia inflicts 10 times the normal damage on the primary target (and additional chain damage from 8 hits), leaving Eleaneer far behind. Interestingly, Luvencia can also deal modest damage to groups of enemies, depending on how many she manages to strike.
Consequently, while Eleaneer is an exceptionally strong dark attacker, she may no longer be deemed “the top pick” for PVE content. She performs satisfactorily across all PVE challenges, but when it comes to achieving high scores against fiend bosses and guild raids, in the majority of instances, she might not be the optimal choice.
Eleaneer does have a few niches in PVE that are worth mentioning though.
Initially, both of Eleaneer’s outfits strike horizontally right at the forefront. If you find yourself facing a light fiend or guild boss with horizontal weak spots directly in front, then Eleaneer possesses the most effective abilities to exploit those vulnerable areas.
In addition, Eleaneer boasts an impressive array of abilities, including Piercing Magic Bow for debuff removal and B-Rank Idol for silencing. The combination of these skills in one character can prove beneficial in specific battles. Furthermore, this versatility makes her a viable choice for Tower of Salvation, as she can adapt to various types of enemies, although she may require support from powerful AOE attackers.
Eleaneer for PVP
PVP is where PMB.Eleaneer truly shines.
Players who have delved into higher-tier PvP for some time are well aware that Comeback Idol Granhildr is undoubtedly the leading defense opener. This character initiates the game with a pre-emptive taunt and an impressive 350% HP energy shield. Additionally, she boasts the highest base HP in the game (often exceeding 20,000 HP when correctly equipped). As such, Granhildr is one of the most overpowering PvP units available. If an attacking team lacks a solid strategy to counter her, they may squander their initial attacks on Granhildr without inflicting any damage whatsoever on the enemy team.
Apart from defensive “turtle” strategies, the primary approaches for handling Granhildr involve either applying raw power (deal sufficient damage to eliminate Granhildr and her massive energy barrier) or employing debuff removals (strip away her taunt and energy barrier protection).
PMB.Eleaneer is fantastic due to her ability to deliver raw power and debuff clearing, all at a reasonable cost of 2 SP once you’ve upgraded her costume to level +3.
In the game, there are merely two outfits that eliminate buffs and each require 2 SP: Pool Party Schera (a limited version) and PMB.Eleaneer. Given that Pool Party Schera is a limited edition, this makes PMB.Eleaneer the sole non-limited buff remover priced at 2 SP. Other buff removing outfits, such as alternative Scheras and WB.Yuri, demand 3 SP. Since attacking teams initially possess only 5 SP, the lower SP cost significantly benefits an attacking team. This means you have 3 SP left to manage the remaining enemy team members, rather than just 2.
In the realm of Strategic Party (SP) buffer eliminators, PMB.Eleaneer and PP.Schera stand out as premium choices for competitive Player versus Player (PvP) encounters. Let’s take a brief look at their comparisons:
- When facing Granhildr, PMB.Eleaneer has the edge over Schera, because Eleaneer is dark type against Granhildr’s light type. Especially when Eleaneer is paired with H.Lathel, she has a good chance of wiping out Granhildr entirely, whereas Schera will usually only remove Granhildr’s buffs, but usually still leave Granhildr alive.
- After the first turn, Eleaneer has very good follow up with B-Rank Idol, which deals strong silencing damage. Silence can be brutal and game-winning in PVP.
- On the other hand, unlike Schera, Eleaneer cannot remove buffs on Turn 3 (your second turn, whilst PMB is in cooldown). This leaves your team exposed to strong buffs on Turn 3 like Android Queen Lecliss’s counterattack.
- Eleaneer also has an empty turn on Turn 7 (your fourth turn, whilst PMB and B-Rank Idol are both in cooldown). This is not a problem for Schera who can cycle continuously between costumes.
- One more thing to note. In the current meta, some defending teams have replaced Granhildr with Beach Morphea. Eleaneer is also very good against Morphea, because Morphea’s two summoned units are always created in the very front. This is perfect for Eleaneer’s horizontal AOE, as she is guaranteed multiple targets to hit.
Conclusion
Regardless of its age, the PMB.Eleaneer outfit continues to prove valuable in Player vs Environment (PVE) and maintains a top-tier status in Player vs Player (PVP).
If you’re struggling to progress in Player vs Player battles against formidable Granhildrs, consider adding PMB.Eleaneer to your team. However, do note that she becomes truly effective only after being upgraded to at least +3. Prior to this upgrade, her utility in PVP is relatively limited.
