Costume Guide – Empress of the Ocean Rubia

As a long-time player of this enchanting game, I’ve seen a plethora of characters come and go, each with their unique quirks and abilities. Among them, Empress Rubia has always been a character that intrigued me due to her versatility, if not her sheer damage output.

Rubia for PVE

Initially, it’s important to clarify: Empress Rubia isn’t intended as your primary fire-based attacker in Player versus Environment (PVE). Instead, she serves a different purpose – primarily to bolster your team and increase overall damage output.

As a fan, I’ve noticed that the Fire element boasts numerous powerful attackers with skill damages of 700% or more and solid offensive base stats, such as Maid.Liatris, EA.Eris, LH.Loen, and NJ.Levia. However, despite Empress Rubia’s potential at +5, she only deals a damage of 427.5%, even including chain damage. While this is respectable, it falls short when compared to other Fire attackers in terms of sheer impact.

Empress Rubia is mainly played for 2 reasons in PVE.

Initially, Empress Rubia’s ability boasts six impactful hits, making it one of the game’s top hit count skills (though Celia’s is slightly superior). Each consecutive link in this ability increases the damage of the next strike by 10%, thus enhancing the overall damaging potential of your team within a wide area. A high number of links is crucial for the ‘Last Night’ stage, as it significantly boosts total damage. Furthermore, it excels during certain fiend hunts that necessitate high chain stacks to activate special skills under specific conditions.

As a gamer, I’ll share my thoughts on Empress Rubia: She’s got this unique skill that knocks down defense by 45%. It’s super handy against tough mobs with high defenses. What sets her apart is her wide area of effect, covering more ground than any other DEF shredder out there. However, it can be a bit frustrating that she only reduces defense by 45% instead of the usual 50%. This aligns with her character theme as a versatile but not exceptional unit.

Rubia for PVP

In a simpler phrasing, it could be: “To deploy Empress Rubia effectively in PVP, you should avoid using her in the initial turn as she requires 4 SP (Skill Points), which might make her less ideal for attack teams. However, when utilized strategically, Empress Rubia can prove to be quite impactful in Player versus Player battles.

For attack teams, Rubia’s Maid costume is her best costume for Turn 1 opening. Her Maid costume costs only 2 SP and also gives her evasion, which greatly improves her survivability. If you want to play Rubia in PVP, you should ideally have a high level Maid Rubia in your costume cycle.

In summary, Empress Rubia serves as a secondary ability or as a defensive team’s opening move alongside Maid Rubia. Her extensive area of effect (AOE) allows her to capture at least two enemies, even those tucked away in challenging positions like the center or with unconventional formations. In the current meta where numerous attack teams are still adjusting their gear and strategies against NB.Eclipse, Empress Rubia on defense can tip the scales of a match simply through her AOE element of surprise.

While Empress Rubia may seem to have relatively low damage output in Player vs Environment (PVE), she shines at her full potential when equipped with suitable gear. Her Defense reduction ability ensures consistent damage, offsetting her lower damage multiplier. Interestingly, Rubia boasts a base critical rate of 20%, twice the standard 10%. This high crit rate allows her to compensate for her lower damage multiplier by landing more critical hits. In Player vs Player (PVP), crit rate is particularly valuable, and with the right equipment (especially in tandem with buffers such as RH.Rou), Rubia can easily reach a high critical rate.

If you have the three outfits for Rubia (Base, Empress, Maid), you can seamlessly switch among them without any cooldown periods. This feature makes Rubia a tough contender in Player vs Player battles, although it’s not quite powerful enough to claim the top spot yet. However, it’s worth noting that Rubia is at a disadvantage when facing off against Glacia and Morphea, two commonly used tanks due to their unfavorable elemental matchup.

Conclusion

Although Empress Rubia can be useful, her relatively low damage output and general-purpose role make her vulnerable to being outshined by newer characters, a phenomenon known as powercreep. In fact, recently introduced costumes are already dealing nearly twice the damage that Empress Rubia can. As such, while it’s good to have her, she isn’t currently an ideal choice for substantial investment.
