As a seasoned gamer who has seen countless new characters enter the fray, I must say that Michaela truly stands out among the crowd. Her damage potential is unparalleled, and it’s not every day you come across a character that can single-handedly rewrite the record books for magic attackers.
Official Patch Notes
Overview
PVE Story / Challenge | PVP | Fiend Hunt |
A | C | A |
Last Night | Tower of Pride | Tower of Salvation |
B | C | A |
+ The strongest magic attacker there is
+ One of the very few magic light attackers
+ High crit and crit damage stats
+ Self-sacrifice is not a big drawback if paired with healers like B.Helena
Right now, self-sacrifice doesn’t offer any benefits (but there might be costumes arriving later that utilize low Health Points).
- Hard to use in a lot of game modes due to her self-sacrifice mechanic
- Although her total damage is strong, the M.ATK buff does not scale well with other M.ATK buffs
Michaela for PVE
Damage analysis
Originally in Brown Dust 1, Michaela played a significant role as a staunch advocate. However, surprisingly, her initial attire in Brown Dust 2 is designed for an attacking position instead of a supporting one.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but marvel at Michaela’s destructive prowess. While her basic attack (ATK) is relatively moderate at 330, her inherent critical rate and critical damage statistics are exceptionally elevated.
In a simplified manner, Michaela’s special ability involves reducing her own Health Points (HP) to significantly boost her Magic Attack (M.ATK). Her M.ATK enhancement is quite potent, making her one of the strongest magic attackers in the game when it comes to raw, unenhanced damage. When at her maximum potential (+5), Michaela can deal a staggering 1,200% damage without any additional boosts from other characters.
It’s clear that this multiplier is exceptionally high. Yet, in Player vs Environment (PVE), you likely have other M.ATK boosters in your squad. When multiple buffs of the same kind are applied, they don’t multiply each other; instead, they add up (rather than compounding). As a result, once we factor in the effects of other M.ATK boosters, Michaela remains stronger compared to others, but the disparity in power between Michaela and other magic attackers isn’t as pronounced as it initially appears.
In simpler terms, Last Hope Loen at its maximum potential deals 7.5 times more of Michaela’s M.ATK. However, this appears to be less than Michaela initially, but after B.Helena’s buff (+115% M.ATK) is applied, the situation changes significantly in favor of Last Hope Loen.
- With B.Helena, Michaela does (100% + 200% + 115%) x 400% = 1,660% damage.
- With B.Helena, LH.Loen does (100% + 115%) x 750% = 1,505% damage.
It’s clear that Michaela maintains her lead quite comfortably, however, the increase in her advantage isn’t as substantial as it initially appears to be.
PVE game modes
Michaela consistently excels in situations where heavy damage from light magic is essential. She stands out among the ranks as one of only a handful of characters who can inflict damage with light magic attacks, making her exceptionally powerful against dark bosses and dark fiend hunts with high Defense. The other two characters who share this ability are Angelica, whose damage is based on HP rather than Defense, and Jayden, a 4-star character.
I find myself often struggling when using her due to the fact that she sacrifices 80% of her HP in combat – quite a challenge in PVE. However, in PVE battles and fiend hunts, she truly shines when teamed up with a healer like B.Helena, or if I can keep her safe from harm.
1. In the Tower of Pride, it’s not beneficial for her to be employed for high scores as her health depletion will lower your score. Conversely, in the Tower of Salvation, she becomes an effective damage dealer if you manage to team her up with a healer and/or healing artifacts; otherwise, she is quite frail and susceptible to being eliminated easily.
In Last Night, she is not a very effective finisher because the effect of her buffs is halved.
Michaela for PVP
As a gamer, I find myself seldom using Michaela in PVP due to her outfit’s current state. While her range and cooldown are impressive, the high SP cost and her tendency to self-sacrifice make her less than ideal for PVP play.
It seems unnecessary to use Michaela for magic nuke purposes, since DJ Venaka and NB.Eclipse offer greater consistency, a longer range, and are more cost-effective in terms of spell points.
Conclusion
Michaela sets impressive marks for magic attackers, inflicting substantial damage, albeit at the expense of 80% of her health. As the most potent magic attacker to date, Michaela’s high-damage ability makes her indispensable for players aiming for top scores in dark fiend hunts. For those not focusing on high scores, she may not offer much novelty at this time, but future costumes might leverage her self-sacrifice mechanic to provide additional benefits when health is low. As of now, no such costumes have been introduced.
