Coronation Street Star Geoff Hinsliff Passes Away at 87; Former Co-Star Helen Worth Remembers Him As ‘A Lovely, Quiet Man’

As a dedicated follower and avid Coronation Street fan, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Geoff Hinsliff at the age of 87. His portrayal of Don Brennan, one of the show’s most memorable villains, brought a unique energy to the series that will be greatly missed.

It’s been announced that former Coronation Street actor Geoff Hinsliff, who was renowned for his role as Don Brennan from 1987 to 1997, has sadly passed away at the age of 87. This news comes from The Independent, who report that he died this week.

According to the previously mentioned source, Helen Worth, an actress known for her role as Gail Platt on Coronation Street, expressed her feelings about the late star: “Geoff was a kind, gentle man who will be deeply missed by everyone. His acting partnership with Lynne Perrie was truly remarkable, and they brought great joy to viewers for numerous years.

Geoffrey, often referred to as Geoff, first made an appearance in a well-known soap opera from 1963 to 1977, taking on different roles before landing a permanent part as Don. During his ten years on the show, Cornie, Don transformed into one of its most unforgettable antagonists due to his involvement in kidnapping and murder plots.

As a devoted fan, I’d recount the gripping tale from the series where I, the protagonist, acquired MVP Motors from Mike Baldwin. At first, our business relationship seemed prosperous, but as the garage faced struggles, a deep-seated resentment towards him grew within me. In a shocking twist of fate, I abducted Mike’s wife, Alma, and recklessly drove the vehicle into a canal. Remarkably, both Alma and I managed to survive the accident. However, my vendetta against Mike escalated when I tried to run him over. Tragically, my car veered off course and plunged into a viaduct, causing an explosion that ended my life.

1937 saw the birth of Geoff in Leeds, followed by his education at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art). His television career commenced with an appearance on Z-Cars, leading to roles in series such as Adam Adamant Lives!, Dixon of Dock Green, UFO, The Professionals, Brass, Doctor Who, and numerous others.

More recently, in 2010, Hinsliff appeared in a small role in Holby City as an alcoholic.

Geoffrey is mourned by his wife Judith, whom he wed in 1967 at St. Cecilia’s Church in Little Hadham, East Hertfordshire. Together they have a daughter named Gaby who works as a journalist for The Guardian. At this time, the reason behind Geoffrey’s passing remains undisclosed.
