As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for all things cinema, I must say the news about Constantine 2 has me positively thrilled! With a rich background in the industry and a keen eye for promising projects, I’ve seen my fair share of delays and disappointments. But this? This is a breath of fresh air that has me eagerly awaiting the return of John Constantine, played by none other than the charismatic Keanu Reeves.
Many fans have been excitedly looking forward to news about the upcoming sequel of Constantine, a 2005 movie that introduced us to the intriguing universe of John Constantine, a man who has actually ventured to and returned from Hell. Keanu Reeves, in his captivating performance, played the lead role in this film filled with enigmatic stories. Although its sequel was confirmed in 2022, there had been little news until recently when producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared some insights.
In a chat with Collider post the IMAX 3D screening of Transformer One, Bonaventura disclosed that the script for the upcoming horror-action sequel – a film fans have long awaited – is now finished.
Further in the interview, di Bonaventura mentioned that although he has not gone through the new storyline yet, he will read it at the end of this week, instilling confidence in the project.
Furthermore, Lorenzo di Bonaventura enthusiastically stated that Akiva Goldsman is involved in the project, as he “penned it, and I can hardly wait to dive into it this weekend.
In July, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was confirmed by Akiva Goldsman that he was engaged in writing the script for the sequel to Constantine.
At the distinguished “Collider’s Producers on the Producing” gathering, the trio of di Bonaventura, Goldsman, and Lee (famous for The Lego Movie) divulged some thrilling news during their appearance.
For those unfamiliar, Lorenzo di Bonaventura’s other works encompass Transformers, The New Look, and Deepwater Horizon. On the other hand, Akiva Goldsman has a diverse portfolio spanning from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, I Am Legend, and the initial Constantine production.
In 2022, Warner Bros. announced exciting news to fans: Keanu Reeves would reprise his role in Constantine 2. According to reports from a trusted source, the upcoming movie will be rated R and delve deeper into otherworldly stories, expanding on the supernatural themes.
Despite initial setbacks due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike causing critical delays, the long-awaited film is now ready for release, as it’s officially confirmed that the script has been finalized.
Previously, Keanu Reeves took on the character of John Constantine, a man skilled in both demonology and exorcism. This character was depicted as sensitive to the presence of supernatural entities, working alongside LAPD detective Angela Dodson, who was played by Rachel Weisz.
The movie revolved around the investigation of Dodson’s twin sister, who had committed suicide.
Apart from Reeves and Weisz, the movie showcased prominent actors like Tilda Swinton in her role as Gabriel the Angel, Djimon Hounsou, Peter Stormare, Gavin Rossdale, and Shia LaBeouf. There’s a possibility that Francis Lawrence could reappear in the sequel.
