Comedian Andy Dick experienced a scary health emergency in Hollywood on Tuesday, reportedly due to a drug overdose.
TMZ reported that 59-year-old Dick was discovered collapsed on some outdoor cement stairs in the middle of the day. Pictures obtained by the outlet show him lying still, with his glasses next to him, as friends and witnesses attempted to assist him.
People who saw what happened said several of Dick’s friends rushed to help him, with one yelling for him to wake up. Someone then called for Narcan, a drug used to quickly reverse opioid overdoses, and it was given right there.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical call involving a 59-year-old man who had overdosed, but he did not require a trip to the hospital, according to a department spokesperson.
Following the incident, Dick told TMZ he was alright but didn’t share details about what occurred. Sources say he didn’t want to go to the hospital, stating he was just glad to be unharmed.
Andy Dick has publicly discussed his history with addiction. He revealed to Vice in 2016 that he had sought treatment at rehab facilities around 20 times to overcome issues with drugs and alcohol.
I was really shocked to learn about the legal trouble this comedian has faced. Apparently, back in 2018, he was involved in an incident with an Uber driver that led to a conviction for sexual battery in November 2022. He ended up serving 90 days in jail, and now he has to register as a sex offender. It’s definitely a complicated situation and changes how I view his work.
