Claudia Black Won’t Return in AHSOKA Season 2, Says Disney Won’t Pay Her Fairly

I’m really excited for season two of Ahsoka, even though it’s been tough news lately. Not only did we lose Ray Stevenson, who played Baylan Skoll, but it looks like another character is getting recast! I just read that Claudia Black, who was amazing as Nightsister Klothow in season one, won’t be back. Apparently, Disney wasn’t willing to meet her salary expectations, and she decided it was best not to return. It’s a shame, because I really liked her performance, but she felt she deserved fair compensation, and I can definitely understand that.

I want to be upfront about why I won’t be in season two. The show was renewed, and I was initially brought back as well, but Disney wasn’t able to offer me a salary that would allow me to manage my responsibilities as a single mother in Los Angeles, especially since filming was taking place in London. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t financially feasible for me to continue, so I had to decline.

Although she expressed sadness about the show ending, the Stargate SG-1 actress holds no resentment towards those involved. She emailed Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni to thank him for the experience, saying that, like many who grew up in the 70s and 80s, she’s always loved Star Wars. She appreciated the fun and creative atmosphere on set, and was thankful for the chance to work on the show with such kind people and innovative technology like The Volume.

As a big fan of these streaming shows, it’s a little disheartening to hear budgets are getting squeezed, and sadly, that seems to be why we’re losing Black. I’m still hopeful we’ll see Nightsister Klothow again, though! The big question now is who will play her. I’m already counting down the days until season two of Ahsoka hopefully lands on Disney+ next year.
