Thirty years have passed since the series first graced our screens, and yet, the impact it had on its audience remains as potent as ever.

Claire Danes recently shared insights about collaborating with Jared Leto during their time in the teen drama series My So-Called Life. In addition, Danes discussed how Leto made her feel at ease while filming sensitive scenes together. You can find more information below!

In a recent conversation with People magazine, Claire Danes reminisced about the delightful times she spent working on the popular teen drama series My So-Called Life, as it celebrated its 30th anniversary. During this open discussion with the publication, Danes also expressed her feelings about filming season one’s twelfth episode, titled “Self Esteem,” where her character, Angela Chase, shared a kiss with Jordan Catalano, portrayed by her fellow actor Jared Leto.

The actress admitted she found herself perplexed when a stage direction indicated “Angela kisses Jordan’s face”. She confessed, “I was taken aback (referring to the kissing scene). I exclaimed something like, ‘Really? Why on earth would that happen?’ It seemed strange to me.” Danes revealed that Leto had to clarify the situation for her, which added an element of discomfort.

During interviews, the actress from Flock revealed that Jared Leto behaved more like an older sibling towards her when they weren’t on set. He was extremely supportive and even introduced her to her first nightclub when she was only 14 years old. This brotherly bond made her feel protected, and she valued his care during their collaboration on My So-Called Life.

Danes went on discussing Leto, remarking, “I felt quite moved then, and I still am, by his act of reaching out to me like that and making such a kind gesture.” They emphasized that it was a “sweet” gesture.

At 14 years old, when Claire Danes secured the main part, she also mentioned that she could easily relate to her character, Angela Chase. In an interview with a media outlet, she expressed that she hadn’t come across a role before that so accurately mirrored her own teenage experiences at the time.

Delighted, the Danish actress found a striking resemblance between her personal emotions and her character’s portrayal in the series. She praised the writing as “amazing and insightful,” expressing that it felt incredibly authentic to her own life experiences, making it effortless for her to connect with it.
